A friend was telling me about barefoot shoes. They have a wide toe box. Any good for us post surgery?

I go between barefoot shoes and my Altra paradigm 7 (neutral shoe with wide toe box and zero drop) shoes daily. I love my Splay shoes. Initially you will want a more supportive shoe like the Altra but can move over and transition to a barefoot shoe

Barefoot shoes have to be built up in time as it requires your feet to build strength from all the support given by normal shoes. I wear vibrams fivefingers and vivoactive but they’d is zero support in them. I do wear altras as they have a wide toebox but are also zero drop so encourage a more barefoot style. They are well cushioned. I normally wear them in a UK 7, I have 7.5 for me post surgery but also had size 8 for when my swelling was worse. In time building up to barefoot I feel is very beneficial but many podiatrists don’t agree.

Just seen this on FB about barefoot shoes

My doctor says you need solid sole on the shoes. I have those barefoot shoes and believe me you will feel every pebble and stick you might step on. The toe part is great and gives room to your foot but no support at all in arch. I think they will be too painful post surgery for awhile.

I bought them. Love the wide toe box.

I LIVE in my saguaro shoes!!! Wore the stiff, recommended shoes for 2 months after being given the green light to wear shoes. My feet were so happy to put on barefoot shoes after 2 months of walking in cement blocks!
