Honestly I was so nervous about getting my feet done after reading a lot in this group as it seems a lot of people are mainly having negative stories. I ended up getting both feet done and it’s the best thing I have ever done for myself. I’m no longer in pain, I can wear sandals and cute heels with confidence as well as normal shoes!! It did take a long time for swelling to fully go away. I had bunions and bunionettes. I did them all at once. It was extremely painful for the first few weeks. I found Chinese acupuncture helped with healing and pain management. I got the surgery over a year ago and it’s great. I was a regular gym goer and eased back in and took my time before lifted heavy again. I think 8 months before I lifted heavy. Now I’m so glad I didn’t cancel the surgery!!

Do your research and get more than one opinion. I also am 52, super active and I have an almost 6 year old son that is a mini tornado from sun up until sun down. Your feet will get worse over time. I just had Lapiplasty with a calcaneal (heel) bone graft and the 2nd and 3rd toes set with pins in them to straighten them out. This was performed on my right foot. Tomorrow I get my pins out and hope to start trying a shoe instead of the walking boot. Today was my 6-week post op date. I am beyond thrilled that I had this done. There are so many resources out there. But don’t fall for all of the negative you read. People with success stories don’t always share them. Any pain I had initially was super manageable and completely tolerable. It’s just inconvenient, especially when you’re active and have kids. You’ll be glad you had the surgery!
