Before and after scarf akin in the uk. Now 5 weeks post surgery. Walking approx 6000 steps a day. Back swimming and driving and back to work in a week. I had a fantastic surgeon. Just wanted to post a lllittle positive update to anyone in early stages as I read many negative stories before

Were you in a lot of pain before you had surgery ?

Community comment#3

Looks brilliant! Did you pay private or was it NHS?

Community comment#4

Thanks for the positivity. Which surgeon/location please?

Community comment#5

Sarah thank you so much for posting. I am scheduled for surgery next Wednesday and dreading recovery.

Your foot looks great! So glad to hear your story. #goals! #5daycountdown! Any key things to prep before surgery? Must buys?

Community comment#7

That's wonderful, I'm glad you've had such a good recovery. Did you have minimally invasive surgery?

Community comment#8

We had surgery around the same time. So far I am using an orthopedic boot. My surgeon hasn’t mentioned walking without it yet, but I go back January 13.

Community comment#9

Thank you for posting! Your foot before looks similar to mine just now. I’m scheduled to have surgery in February and hoping for a good outcome 🤞x

Community comment#10

How long were you off your foot and off of work? Just wondering.

not if I didn’t have pain I don’t think I would. I had a good recovery but it’s still long and the first two weeks are very hard

thank you! The only thing I bought was a cushion to put my leg on from Amazon . Really helpful and made it more comfortable. Wishing you luck with your surgery

do you know what the name of the cushion was could you give us a screenshot? I know I'm being a little nervy asking that lol

I’m the same as you Michelle. Surgery April/May. Would love to hear any good tips. Also wondering how we can pre-habilitate the foot!

Thank you for posting this. Your before bunion looks like mine and the after looks great. I hope my pain goes away after recovery. My surgery is the end of February.

Looks great but I'm jealous! My incision got infected so I've only just started driving at 8 weeks post op and it's still not fully healed!

Community comment#27

Thanks for sharing such a positive outcome! I have surgery on 1/19 and there have been multiple times where I thought about cancelling due to some of the comments posted. Wishing you even more success!

Had the same surgery and now at the 2 week mark. Hoping I'll be able to drive and be active in the same timeframe. ❤️

That is wonderful. Do you have any pictures of your recent x-rays?

Community comment#31

Thanks for the encouragement! I agree, I also saw many negative comments. So far, I have no regrets and can’t wait to do my left foot.

Community comment#32

Big difference! Looks like MIS.

Community comment#33

Looks great! I am at the stage of “thinking of seeing a podiatrist “ my bunions do not hurt because i wear good quality wide width shoes, but it’s just a matter of time before

It's wonderful to hear great news. Thanks for sharing and so happy for you.

I know! I see some of the photos and posts and know I have had it easy compared to many. Your story is encouraging. I am really ready to be relaxed to drive. Missing freedoms to GO:)

I was off my foot completely for 2 weeks - just toilet and shower visits and then from week 3 increased to pottering around the house once I had my bandages off. Back to work after 6 weeks but I am on my feet at work

Thank you. Glad you've healed well though. I questioned whether I'd done anything wrong but the doc said I was just unlucky. Was put on 14 days worth of strong antibiotics Christmas eve and thankfully they've helped me turn a corner 🙌🏻 x

I was exactly the same and very close to cancelling so thought I would share some positivity: wishing you luck with yours

Looks great!

Your foot doesn't look as swollen as mine is and I'm almost 8 weeks on from MIS. I have been driving for about 3 weeks and back in trainers for 4 weeks but my walking gait is not right because of the swelling and stiffness. I keep trying to walk normally but it's a bit uncomfortable. When you say 6,000 steps what is that in length of time spent walking/standing?

Community comment#46

Your foot looks great!!👌 Im 4 weeks post op from scarf akin and weil in nhs and my foot is still swollen and i really struggle with hypersensitivity😣 I cant wait to wear shoes and drive, i have my appointment in two weeks with the doctor! When did you started moving your toes fully? And have you done any physio during this time?xx

Brilliant result 👍

What is the arrow for?

Community comment#50

I am 6 weeks post scarf akin surgery, still not wearing a shoe, still dealing with aching and burning pain, no PT, scared to move my toes due to pain, and wondering if the bump on side of big toe will go down and go straight more?

It's great to see such positive results. I have noticed fewer of them on forums so I quite appreciate this post.

Community comment#53

Your foot looks like mine, exactly like it

I am still not walking completely normally. I have a slight limp I would say when I walk. I would say I am walking/standing about 70% of the day now. I just keep a trainer on all day (literally from when I get up to bed ) to help with swelling as advised by my consultant

my dr told me at my two week appt to start wiggling my toes. And no physio just told me to keep moving my toes. Very stiff to. Begin with but loads better now. Your foot looks great! Hopefully you will get good news at next appt

I’m due for scarf and akin on Thursday in Wales. I’m also having a 2nd PIP fusion. This is a very encouraging post. Thank you!
