Big toe nerve pain?

Big toe nerve pain? I have a small bunion on my left foot which causes me a lot of foot pain. I went and saw a podiatrist when the outer edge of my big toe became numb and my pain got worse. He told me my bunion was too small to be causing pain and said all my bones are shifting to the left which is a sign of something else going on. He said he couldn't even correct the bunion. He wanted me to have a nerve conduction study done first. I got one and it's normal.
