Has anyone ever had a rash around your surgical site?

It’s normal. I had same n took good care. It went away with time… 6 months.

It appears allergic. Could be from prep. Some docs put an adherent so sterile strips stick better, like benzoin tincture, coild be adhesive tape sensitivity, could be a deeper allergy to internal sutures if any used, or nickel if metal in foot, but you may know if you have a nickel allergy.

Do you have metal implants? if it continues, ask to be tested for metal allergies.

Yes, I get a rash or blisters every time I've had surgery. Trying to rule out different things. I think it might be the surgical scrub they use to disinfect. I also have autoimmune diseases and it could be related to one of them too. I get hives from perfumes and scents. So hard to narrow mine down.

Is your foot elevated above your heart and still doing this?

I had an adhesive allergy on steri-strips from a different surgery so they didn’t apply them when I had foot surgery. Feels like insult to injury!

It looks sounds like an adhesive allergy. My allergist told me that Zyrtec works just as well as Benadryl and doesn’t make you sleepy. If Benadryl is m asking you tired, it might be worth trying. I always tell them I have an adhesive allergy and have not had issues since. Best of luck

Contact dermatitis to the adhesive most probably - it’s happened to me. I’d check with them and see if they can take those off. In the mean time- an oral antihistamine - I do not prefer Benadryl - but that’s a personal choice. May need to be cleaned and either aired out or have a topical steroid applied to soothe the redness and itching.

Thank you all for your responses. It love this page just for this reason! I keep telling myself that the incision looks ok and I guess it will go away in time. I will definitely go see the dr just for my own peace of mind.

This rash looks familiar. Once I had it all across my stomach (abdominal surgery) and the line of the the surgical plastic adhesive sheet was very defined. I was allergic to the adhesive in the plastic sheet. That may be what you have. If it's that, it will fade soon. If it doesn't, it could be something else. (I now inform them that I have allergies to adhesives prior to any procedure. I also have to use band aids for sensitive skin.)

It is the adhesive dressings your skin is reacting to. I have the same thing, it's an allergy to the adhesive so I can't have anything like that on my skin. It will cause a dreadful mess if left on.

I have that same red stuff and I’m putting cream on it. I think it’s because I’m irritated with the cream that he gave me for the fungus on my foot.

Looks infected to me.

Most likely, an allergic reaction to the steristrip tape adhesive.

I get rashes from certain tapes and will need to remind them as paper tape is usually best for me.

I went to the dr today. He removed the seri strips and put a zinc wrap on it. And he gave me a steroid pack. It’s feeling much better than it did.

I had a rash from iodine solution used to clean the area pre-op.

I'm allergic to some medical tapes. It might be the cause

I did!!! It turns out I was allergic to the glue on the steri-strips and developed massive, itchy, painful blisters. Call the Dr asap and get that stuff off!
