Has anyone had a deep, bleeding crack on their foot? What helped? Back story: I have had two bunion surgeries on my right foot, the second one being a fusion in 2020. For the last few summers, I’ve developed a deep open crack where my big toe meets my sole—kind of in between my big toe and my second toe, but more on the big toe side. (I can take a pic if anyone is curious.) Typically I just put a bandage on and switch to socks and sneakers instead of sandals for a few days, and it seems to heal—the pain goes away, at least. But it always comes back. This year, I visited my primary care provider about it. She said she thought the problem was caused by the immobility from the fusion. She prescribed terbinafine cream, which I started today, but she didn’t sound very confident that it would help. I’ll take any advice anyone has. I’m not sure if I should give this cream time to (maybe) work, or if I should just go back to the podiatrist. Thanks!

What struck me is the fact it's not there with sneakers but is with sandals. Generally speaking sandals are not very good shoes as far as proper structure and support go. Your fusion has obviously affected your gait and you must have the proper support. Talk to your podiatrist about this and they can make some recommendations that are right for your new foot structure.
sorry, should’ve mentioned—they’re orthotic sandals.
I wish I had a solution for you. I have to ask you - what orthotic sandal works for you. I’m 5 months post big toe fusion and can’t find a pair that works for me. Thanks
it's still an important observation and I would ask the doc
I tried castor oil because I saw it talked about so many times. Not sure about magic effects but it has healed up cracks in my heel that never want to go away for years.
When I get a crack...I use savalon, then Lanolin, hope this helps
