Hello all! I’m about 2 weeks out from a lapidus bunionectomy (11/20) and am trying to prepare myself for going back to work after the first of the year. I work as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in an outpatient office setting. First pic is day of surgery, second pic is post surgical x-rays, and third pic is my foot yesterday. Swelling and pain are down significantly but I unfortunately did have a skin reaction to either the surgical scrub, or the adhesive they used during surgery. (Redness isn’t infection) I was thinking of getting some compression socks for later on in the healing process but I was hoping to hear from others things that have helped them!

I started using the Exogen bone stimulator at 2 weeks post lapidus and it has helped fuse the bone faster.

Just out of curiosity, for what reasons did you have surgery on this? Was it causing you pain? I have the same on the same foot. X

Wow!! That looks good❤️🙏

A Coban wrap helped me. I wear one during day and I’m 6.7 weeks postop.

Weirdly I wasn’t a fan of compression socks. My swelling wasn’t too bad and it irritated my feet more. I actually wore diabetic socks (the opposite of any compression lol). Just eat as healthy as possible and start PT once you are allowed would be my advice. If your doctor clears you to exercise non-weight bearing, that can help keep up stamina, but also balance that with rest as much as you need and let your body heal. Your foot looks great aside from the reaction, you’ll probably heal fast!!

GiftedBlueberry219 how soon after surgery did you wear it? I’m worried it’ll be hard to get it over my foot without causing pain or harming the incision

socks because they can be unnecessarily tight, potentially cutting off circulation (especially if ill-fitting), causing skin irritation, or masking underlying issues, with most benefits occurring during the day when you're upright against gravity; however, a doctor might recommend it for specific conditions like severe venous issues, requiring mild compression and careful monitoring. Taking them off at night allows skin to breathe and prevents dependency, making it better to give your legs a break unless advised otherwise.

I also had surgery on my little toe joint last year (bone shaved and realignmen) plus little toe pinned. Just wondering under what circumstances would i consider surgery on this? X

I was having numbness and pain that kept getting worse and worse. I worked as a nurse on the floor for 12 years which my doctor said likely helped bring this on sooner for me. All the ladies on my mother’s side have bad bunions and he said intervention now with the less invasive procedure could help prevent further progression of my bunion and significantly lessen my pain. It is mild to moderate but the joint on my big toe was significantly raised (which the picture does a poor job of showing). My podiatrist said that was the key issue to fix to help lessen pain and stabilize the joint.

Thanks for your reply 🙂 yes i think i take after my nan having already having surgery in the one side after years of problems 🙈 Thankfully no pain in mine yet so guess its something to keep a eye on. I have a abnormal big toe joint so wondering if that has affected my whole foot in general 🤔 i guess time will tell xx

My big toe is starting to go underneath the other too 🤔 im still under my consultant from last years surgery, wondering if its worth getting his opinion? X
