Hello fellow PF sufferers!

Hello fellow PF sufferers! I thought I would give an update and my shoe recommendations for anyone that might be interested! I have had PF for 3 years, have been down the same road that most everyone goes down... saw a podiatrist, got custom orthotics, had steroid shots, PT, and finally surgery. I had open plantar faciotomy in March. I am not pain free yet but I guess I could say I'm about 75% better. (For other context, I'm 64 and a bit overweight) I have tried so many different shoes and I want to share what works for me! Vionics Recovery Slides - These have been my "house shoes" since I was diagnosed. They feel so good in the arch, I wear them with socks mostly. Birkenstocks - I have many different styles and they all feel good! Pictured are the ones I have walked miles and miles in, they feel better than gym shoes to me for the most part. Thinking I need to try their clogs to wear in the winter with socks. Oofos - I got these fairly recently and wore them to the airport/on a trip and on my regular 2-3 mile walks. They feel good! I wore Brooks for many years but have decided the toe box is just too narrow. I used to be an 8 or size up to 8.5 but now I am 8.5 size up to 9. I got a size 9 in these and they feel great! Taos- I also got these recently in part for "hiking" (nothing hardcore) and they worked well, walked/hiked about 8 miles one day in Rocky Mountain National Park! They are sturdy and have good arch support. Again I sized up to a 9. Other notes: I tried on a pair of Kurus and I did not like the way they cup your heel. Might work for some but not me. Also I have 2 pairs of Altras and they are not good for me either, despite the wide toe box they just don't feel good. Hope this will help someone and I welcome thoughts/comments.

I found that PCSSoles give me the stability and deep heel cup I need. Love their flip flops!

Do you wear your orthotics with your Taos and Oofos?

Thank you very much for the recommendations!!

I would think those thick recovery slides would be painful. For me I wear crocs inside the house. But my pain comes from the top part of me heel on the bottom of my foot. I still don’t know what shoes to wear during the day at work that can give me relief

I wear power step insoles instead of orthotics made by my ortho in wide Hoka Cliftons. I had to pull out the Hoka insol and put my power step pink inside the Hoka Clifton. The wide Hoka Bondi for me, has a wider toe box but seems too with my insol narrow in my arch area. Many insoles raise one’s foot up in just about every tennis shoe. I wear Oofos slides in my house. At first they are bouncy feeling but through the day they felt so good. I have hardwood floors.

Which oofos shoe is that ?

Loved wearing the Oofos but they added to my plantar problems. They are considered (by podiatrist) to have too much give and too little support for my flat foot. Loved the Hoka (Clifton wide) for lots of toe wiggle room and great comfort but also contributed to worsening pf.(The Hoka Bondi are supposed to have better support). Reverted to an old pair of Asic runners and added arch support insole and that improved things. I no longer limp. Around the house I'm wearing Crocs with an insole while awaiting arrival of Vionics. What a painful journey we're all going through!!!

I swear on Birkenstocks!!! I have one pair at work and two pairs at home. But it needs to be their original cork foot bed, their foam styles were just ok for me, but they did not give me the relief of an og birkenstock.

Agree!! I think part of it for me is I need to be able to wiggle my toes!! I think I have 7 pairs of Birks that I have gotten over the years (not the foam ones) and they all feel good.

I've been looking for waterproof PF trainers for walking in for ages. I bought some really good ones for round the house and they are brilliant but are not waterproof. Are any of these waterproof?

I have spent a fortune in the last year trying different shoes my podiatrist referred me to have surgery because I now have bone spurs on both heels as well the pain is awful so anything that works is good I'll try the oomy stride for sure thanks

It's called the Taos Advance. They are wide enough for me but I did size up a half size. The toe box is not as wide as the Oofos or Altras.

I believe Altras in general have a wider toe box than other shoes. Brooks for example, have a more narrow toe box, even in the wide width.

The Oofos are definitely not waterproof, I kind of doubt that the Taos are but maybe check their website. Sorry I don't have more info on that.
