While I was minimizing walks, I did go from room to room and occasionally downstairs right away. But my doc said that was perfectly fine. Did he say you need to be on bed rest? Perhaps give him a call tomorrow, sharing your worries

Hey everyone -tomorrow will be 7days since I had my surgery on both feet. I have only been getting out of bed to go to bathroom which is only a metre away several times per day. When I get up I can hear crunching -its prob me being paranoid I am doing damage by walking. I am trying to follow surgeon's instructions on complete bedrest. I won't be seeing him for post op visit for another 9 days. At what point post surgery did you guys walk further even if its venturing into the rest of your house. I have a home office at other end of our property and I would really like to go there but I am more worried that I would do damage. Any thoughts?

Make sure you put the surgical shoe even when going to the bathroom
Had mid-foot fusion and MIS bunion surgery 3 weeks ago. I was permitted to go short trips wearing my post-op shoe that prevents me using my forefoot. I use a knee scooter to get around too.
Akin chevron Ist metarsal min invasive yesterday morning by nerve block for moderate to large bunion, small pin in metarsal. 30 minutes in surgery. Walking with post op shoe immediately easier once block wore off after about 8 hrs, pain under control so far with paracetamol and ketoprofene, so far no swelling.Lots of throbbing going on but not really painful. Keeping foot raised in between pottering about. So far so good, fingers crossed and all the best to you xx
Knee scooter or knee rover is your friend. I used it even to get from the end to the restroom. It’s easier than crutches or hobbling.
That's great to know that you did go from room to room - at what day post op did you do that? You are good now? Surgery was succesful?
I actually walked on my own two feet right after surgery, in those post-op surgical shoes. That evening, I walked downstairs for dinner, for example. My surgery was mid February and I'm currently still doing PT. My left foot is better than the right, but the bunion on that foot was also bigger. This week I'll have my final visit with my surgeon, hopefully the x-ray show everything is healing as it should. But it will give me the opportunity to ask if the pain in the middle foot on my right one is 'normal'. As of right now, I tolerate only sneakers, even one inch heel feels very uncomfortable still, and they tend to swell if I do too much. Birkenstocks indoors are my life saver, the arch support is crucial.
Oh wow. good to know what you walked straightaway. so 3 months and still mainly sneakers. Hopefully your final visit will be amazing.
Yes have been putting the surgical shoe anytime I stand. Thanks for reminder though....
I don't know the exact name of my procedure he just called it Minimally Invasive bunion correction. Both had both feet down at same time.
MIS bunion surgery is relatively easy compared to fusion surgery. Kudos to you for getting both done but you need to always wear your post-op shoes.
yes will wear shoes at all times. I was just thinking today - if they hadn't done both I am not sure i would have gone back for a 2nd one. Just too much down time. You are right - its not too bad as far as pain goes as far as easier.
I get that...my downtime will be far longer due to the fusion. Then have to face the other foot arghhh. No choice I'm afraid...onwards and upwards 😉
Hang in there...It will be worth it.
For me that wont work because I had both feet done at same time. Thanks though....
