Hi! I saw a podiatrist a couple of weeks ago for my toenails. I had a pinpoint laser (YAG 1064) done and am currently treating with Jublia. I am scheduled to go back in for a followup laser in February. Two months from the first laser. They recommended no nail polish except for a special occasion and then to take it off ASAP. The brand they recommended was Dr. Remedy’s Enriched Nail polish.

Hi there, I am glad I found this group because I saw a podiatrist last month, first time ever and she basically gave me a prescription for the blood test and the prescription oral medicine. It really don't want to take that. She never said anything about all the stuff I've seen on this site and said nail polish is fine, anyway, I am really freaking out and discouraged after reading many of these posts. I certainly don't have an hour a day to devote to this and I'm so embarrassed and don't want anyone to know. I'm also going to be in Florida with friends the next few months and I tend to live in flip-flops but now I am seeing no nail polish allowed? What about Dr. Remedy's nail polish? anyway a little about my situation: I am a 67 1/2 year old healthy active woman. Several months ago at least I noticed just a little white near the nail of my big toe. Maybe even close to a year ago, I can't remember, but it didn't seem to grow out. So last month I went to see the podiatrist and it did test positive for fungus. She never even looked at any other toes or my other foot but I think they are fine. Before finding this group, I looked online and saw that Pur03 Fully Ozonated Sunflower Oil can be helpful. I started putting it on my toe and rubbing it in twice a day but now it seems to be getting more discolored and actually now is a little sore whereas it wasn't before. I am so bummed about this. And on the site I see so many different options, do I go with Vicks?, tree oil, etc etc, or a combination of things or will anything actually help? And is occasional nail polish. OK if I take it off of days I'm not wearing sandals? ugh, I'm pretty bummed and would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks so much! I wish I had a picture from a couple months ago because there was no discoloration, no yellowness, no soreness and it was so minor. I almost felt silly going to a doctor. It's almost like the sunflower oil has made it worse ??This is this morning's picture

Use polish for your trip, then remove after. Don’t let it ruin your trip!
What would be the top home remedy to try. Can I get this nipped in the bud?
I don’t usually wear polish except when I go on vacation. Paint them for your vacation and enjoy yourself. Take it off when you come home. Also, I wouldn’t take the pills because they are so hard on your liver.
Try liquid bandaid. Cut/file all the damage nail. Then coat heavily with liquid bandaid. Make sure all exposed nail is covered completely. Keep it on there and see if it will grow out normal. I’ve tried everything but oral meds the last 4 years and this is the only thing that worked. I got an electric file and ground all the white damaged nail away. Then coated with liquid bandaid. My nail is growing out healthy!!
thanks so much!!
I'll be there 3 months, yikes!
thank you and I agree about the pills.
wow Laurie, how did you come up with this idea? It sounds doable and I'd be thrilled if it works!I have a few questions: 1. When you and others talk about grinding the nail do you mean at the top edge or on actual surface of the nail? ( if so that seems scary, like you could quickly get to the nail bed and ouch!) 2. Do you remove and/ or add to the liquid bandage or just leave the one coat on? Thanks so very much!
This is great information! Since mine is fairly new and not bad yet. Do you think just keeping the nail short and slightly filing the surface and applying liquid bandage would help?
can you post the specific brand of liquid bandaid that you use
I file using an electric dremel. My nail had damage all the way to the skin under it so it wasn’t painful to file it away. But yes I would drill the damage nail down even if I’m starting on the surface of the nail. When you reapply it moistens the old application and I just recoat it.
Anonymous member this is after trimming it down and then applying a new coat. It has almost grown completely out. My nail was so damaged that my toenail was U shaped from where I filed it down the middle. The sides weren’t as damaged but I filed all the bad nail tissue away (white/yellow/black in color). Then applied the liquid bandaid. I have done this filing method before but used various other things but the damage always grew and was continuing to slowly eat away at my good nail
Anonymous member I knew when to stop filing when I reached healthy nail tissue or it became painful too close to the skin.
Hi Laurie, I just put my first coat of liquid bandaid on, fingers crossed! I have a few questions please: 1. When you recoat you never remove the original coat right? I'm not sure how you would other than peeling it off 2. How often do you recoat? 3. Have you ever put nail polish on over it ( the liquid bandaid draws attention to my one infected toe- big toe, whereas with nothing in it isn't as noticeable) 4. How long until you saw some improvement? 5. If you ever recoat from scratch do you file the nail down again? A million thanks for your help!!
Anonymous member 1. Adding more liquid bandaid will allow the old to loosen and it can be cleaned off. I do remove it every few weeks to inspect and file or trim if necessary. 2. I add more about every 4-5 days or as needed. 3. Never done nail polish. It does look gross but being winter I don’t worry about it. 4. Saw improvement as the nail grew out. The fungus wasn’t spreading further down my nail. 5. See #1. I tried to file and trim all the damaged nail away before I started. Some areas deep in the middle were too tender to do that so I let that grow out and trim as it got longer.
Anonymous member yes!
thanks!
do you have any idea how long you in particular have to keep using it until all of your fungus is gone?
I’ve been doing it for about 3 months. I filed all the bad nail off first with a dremel. So it is still growing out and I’m still doing it until it is completely grown out.
thank you!!!
