I 100% regret bunion surgery.

I 100% regret bunion surgery. I even had to have a revision surgery which I think made things worse. Now I have a screw sticking out and it rubs on my sneakers when I try to work out. Is there something I can put in my shoe to help? I don't want to use adhesive on my skin because I'm allergic so it would really be nice if I could put something in the shoe that won't wrinkle or rub. Thank you!

I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. What initial procedure did you have done? Have you spoken to the surgeon about having the screw removed?

Geez that’s crazy I’m sorry you have to go through all of this. Think there needs to be advancements in the bunionectomy field because too many people have complications/revisions

I have had the same experience. Revision and a pin sticking out. I wear wide shoes. I found any tape only put extra pressure. I’m contemplating getting screw removed. All best to you

I had a double MIS in January. A screw was in the wrong place from day one and oh could I feel it. It came out of the bone by about a third of the size of the screw. Yesterday I had it removed. Procedure awake. I can't tell you how it's gone yet but will hopefully know in a few weeks. I am hyper mobile and they knew this before surgery. Both of my big toes are already turning inwards. I have Informed one of the medics that much more needs to be done pre operation. We get told oh things can go wrong but like with all operations there are risks. Not like 70% need redoing. Which I was told just as I was being taken into theatre. I think there is a need for progress ref the operations and information pre operation. This is not a message to scare people. But do ask the questions. Do research. But most importantly post operation be patient. Take care, do as your told. And it does take many months for the feet to recover. Good luck.

I am 14 weeks and I am struggling to work more than a few hours a day. I still wear my moon boot that goes almost up to my knee. This morning I woke up and was just so over the pain. So I called my family doctor who I trust and he seems to think my problem is my foot has so much inflammation in it and started me on a steroid I am hoping this why I feel so much pain. I ice and still as soon as I am on my feet it hurts. He said that in three weeks if not better it will be mri. He said it could be my body rejecting the screws did this happen to you?

I'm so sorry to hear. I just had a revision surgery as well. It's been very disappointing. I wonder if you should get another opinion from a doctor. Maybe they can remove the hardware?

I think you need to have the screw removed. I had to have mine removed 4 months after fusion because it popped up. Very painful.

my revision rate on my bunions is probably around 3%. I understand you’re frustrated but that’s not reality.

My husband thinks we should come out to you for a consult for a revision. Not sure if my insurance would cover both so far from home.

don't understand your comment. Sorry. I havnt said a probability. I said what the surgeon said just before going into the operation. She wasn't talking about mine. She was talking about revision rate of bunion operations. I am not frustrated. Just said that I feel more information needs to be talked about pre operations and not skirted around.

sorry to jump on your post Peter. I have been having intense pain (surgery was August just for a bunion) I went for a check up and my usual surgeon (his member of staff did this recent op) looked at the x-ray and said the screw is a bit long but will leave it in and see what happens - we don’t want to take it out incase of infections etc. I am still taking meds for the pain. I am phoning up today to have it out !

I don’t understand it either. Maybe he means once operated on again and taking it out ? Perhaps he doesn’t want to do it. I have heard that it’s a lot easier second time around? Thanks Peter for responding !
