I come from a long line of people with big bunions. Both my mother and grandmother had much worse bunions than I do. Mine were exacerbated by surgery to remove tophi from many gout episodes 2.5 years ago. I've lost weight and taken meds to further shrink remaining tophi. I have a hard time with most shoes but have learned to manage by wearing zero drop shoes with a wide toe box.
