I have just had bunion and hammer toe surgery….and I am genuinely in agony. The nerve block wore off yesterday and prescribed dihydrocodeine isn’t working for me. I’m keeping my foot elevated, iced - and only moving for trips to the loo. Any suggestions please for better pain relief ….this is literally flipping agony

Call your dr and ask for a stronger prescription. I just had two toe osteotomies and a neuroma removed. I took 5 mg of oxi every 4 hrs the first couple days. I had minimal pain. I'm sorry your pain is so bad.

Ive had steel rod inserted in foot last week, with skin graft hip. I find tramadol helping, also have other surgeries on other leg, so tramadol, panadol & diclofenac keeping me sane. Good luck

what did you do to prepare for surgery? Is there anything besides not getting surgery you would change?

Go back to your doctor. Ask him for stronger pain meds.

I had mine last Sept. The pain is ROUGH! You need a stronger prescription for sure. I tried to be tough and not take them every 4-6 hours as prescribed. DONT DO THAT! Keep on top of your pain.

Don’t wait til the meds wear off!! Overlap by 30 minutes minimum!

The pain is some the worst I’ve ever experienced….hang in there. I played rugby, had knee replacement then the bunion/hammertoe surgery and I “joke” give me 10 knee replacements for one foot surgery! Keep it elevated plus ice ice ice. Good luck and prayers to you!

Not sure you will see this but I just found this thread. I'm wondering how you are doing now.

I'm so sorry, it's no fun. I agree with overlapping for now.

If your able..Try 2 Advil liquid gels every 4 hours . I have a prescription for Norco hydrocodone 10 -325 but the Advil actually helps more just a few days at a time though. Hard on the liver I believe.

also take Tylenol arthritis 650 caplets if you can get it. Paid it with the pain killer. I took two 650s along with my prescription.

thank you. Just been told by a friend that good old paracetamol helped her more than any opioid so I’ll try that when next meds due. Maybe get a sleep tonight.

I had to have surgery as along with v.painful bunion and hammer toe I also had a metatarsal problem which would have left me crippled further down the line if Ihad not gone ahead. I didn’t do it for cosmetic reasons or anything. I did all the usual things, avoided alcohol, ate properly, took supplements. I was told it would be painful but this is beyond anything I could have imagined. (and my son was breech birth at 11lbs after a three day labour 😳) I can’t describe it properly just all encompassing pain through the entire foot radiating up the leg that is difficult to cope with. Three pins in foot. I possibly would have asked for a longer lasting block but I suppose it has to wear off at some point. There is no infection, or other problem. Pic before, last year, hammer toe got much worse.

No photo description available.

wow sounds like a lot to go thru. I hope you heal quickly and surgery was successful. I'm trying to get the ortho surgeon to listen to me and fix my left foot as it's stopping me from being a bit more active. Both feet eventually need to be done but the left is way worse than the right

Nancy Yates I'm not really sure what you mean? She had no problems answering and you not she are only one that says something like that. Have the weekend you deserve.

Yes I called and told I couldn’t have nothing stronger. Prescribed pain meds and ice, elevation. It’s not enough, but I guess it will have to be.

I will second what the others are saying re: Tylenol 8-hour Arthritis strength. I take 2 every 7 hours on bad days. Overlap your pain med dosages by at least 30 minutes since it takes time to get into your system.
