I haven’t the heart to file constantly away at my toenails. I go to a podiatrist for treatment. Boiling infected socks (and face towels, used to dry the feet after a shower) for ten minutes will kill the toenail fungus spores completely, according to online information. (As will the sanitation cycle of a washing machine if you have it.) I’ve been boiling several pairs of 100% cotton socks at a time for 10 minutes in a stainless steel pot (I change my socks twice each day), then machine washing in a regular, warm wash, and have been wearing them again, without fear of reinfection. With a podiatrist I have completed laser treatments over a 6 1/2 month period and am 90% cured so far. A year’s time from the first treatment will tell as the new nail completely replaces the old. I hope that boiling the socks will spare me reinfection.

I have followed this group for years. Considering the number of people who suffer from this condition, I wonder if anyone has any information on whether the medical community is studying this and finding a cure that eliminates the condition quickly.

Some opine (I.e., my skin doctor), “Live with it!” I didn’t ask, “But, HOW?” because I’d rather try treating & eradicating it. Because, boy, it got ugly.

This process working so far for me as well! Been fungus free over a year with boiling and laser! Also wash inside out with a half cup of borax on hottest setting

No need to boil them you can literally just wash and dry them normally

what's the name of the laser? i've been using Cutera laser. my twice daily routine is to file my toenails with a coarse emery board that i get at sally beauty, wash my feet and the scrub them with an anti-bacterial soap with a toothbrush. then dry them with a hand towel. then i apply tolcylen nail renewal solution. doc says that i'm 90% done. now we're just watching the toenail grow out.

I find cotton socks are extremely sweaty and actually make moisture far worse. They slip and the feet just feel drenched, which does not happen in blends. Sport type socks should be fine as long as they are changed and washed in hot. I wouldn't bother boiling anything because a hot cycle is fine. There are laundry additives you can use (like Lysol sanitizer) which may or may not work, or just bleach. Just my opinions.
