I keep reading having an unhealthy diet gives you toenail fungus ! As a former professional footballer for 22 years i have had the best dietician, personal trainers fitness programmes I've maintained very good fitness all my life and a healthy balanced diet . I have never had any toenail issues until 15 years ago after my career. I shared changing rooms with many other team mates including showers etc etc My feet and toenails were perfect during that time . About 15 years ago I noticed my nails were becoming slightly thicker but colour was still normal. I assumed it was years of kicking footballs around perhaps took it's toll . Then over time they started to turn yellow brown colours and got confirmed by my doctor as nail fungus. This was deep hidden fungus that you don't see I never knew was there , my doctor said this probably started while I was playing and slow growing fungus at the root just grew over time . You can have surface fungus that is easy to spot and treat but hidden fungus is the worst. No matter how far you file down you will never reach close enough for any product to get through to treat it . When I see people mentioning unhealthy diets and gut issues contribute to toenail fungus it's complete bull!! My best friend since school days has a horrendous diet of pizza's, cakes ,fizzy drinks, alcohol doesn't exercise and he has perfect feet and really good toenails, make that make sense? Doctor put me on terbinafine tablets that only worked for a few months the fungus never really went away......he said there really isn't an answer out there if I'm honest unless you get them removed , some people just get lucky and some don't . Eveyone is on their own journey with this some of you have minor fungus and some have severe , not all products Will work the same for everyone so personal management of your own level of toenail fungus is ongoing for many of us unfortunately. For those that cleared yours up you are extremely lucky .

100% this! Also people saying they have fungus internally. That’s so not true. It feeds on keratin so it cannot spread to mucus membranes or internally. I stubbed my toe 15 years ago so hard it became ingrown. Then had to get just that portion removed by a podiatrist. When it grew back it started growing in weird and then the fungus began. Nothing to do with diet!!

Age can be a factor? Or just a matter of probability, for example some by chance got exposed to fungus more than others?

The best dietician would’ve had an athlete on lots of carbs, am I right? They’re the problem when it comes to fungus. Your best friend doesn’t have the same gene expressions as you

Mine was from getting a pedicure

I’m so sad that in this time of such medical advances we still suffer. I’ve had it for 63 years. All treatments have been temporary and I really think it’s a huge money grab for podiatrists. My only hope is the new frequency modality (medbeds) will work and restore our bodies .

Mine was from a pedicure. The tec cut the skin above the nail while cutting the cubical. She put iodine on it and said it would be fine. It quickly turned green and thick. I went on terbinifine, and it didn’t help. Then the dr removed my nail. I regret that. It didn’t help, came back even worse, and it grows deformed. I eat great and work out. It’s ugly and I hate summer.

I'm sure there are many different factors that contribute. I eat a lot of sugar but only get it when I'm pregnant because your immune system is lowered then. Got it on a new toe with every pregnancy. Have managed to get rid of it on a couple toes, now I just need to try to get the worst and first toe left

Exactly, on every point. I’ve had a stellar diet all of my life- I have grown my own organ mic food for decades and I NEVER eat processed junk. I’m on the cleanest diet possible. Getting rid of fungus is as you say- people have different strains of fungus do treatment is hit or miss, and most likely miss. Yet…. We try and hope.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, honestly and authentically

not a lot no.....balanced pre match meals included some carbs not the amount you may think. Also not all sports athletes that take in a lot of carbs develop toenail fungus so that can't be the source....as you said ' genes ' yes we are all different and that is the only answer that makes sense to me.

I'm married to a dietitian. I had to retrain her, they really don't know much. Yes really. I had to get eating meat and animal fat for her health. Took me a while to convince her, now she is 95% carnivore.
