Anaesthesia shuts the bowel down so, yes, start on the laxatives straight away! Nightmare otherwise!

I learned the hard way. This “problem” as well as not being prepared for nausea were the worst part of the first week.

I keep zofran from my last surgery and also good for colonoscopy prep. That will keep your nausea down. I had no side effects from it.

Milk of magnesia will work in a couple hours. Mg Oxide or Mg Citrate will work overnight. I have a lifetime of constipation from a connective tissue disorder, and this works. I'm on motegrity now, but the above does work.

I started with miralax twice a day and a gentle laxative at bedtime 2 weeks before my surgery Continued thru out recovery
