If you are non-weight-bearing, then you shouldn’t be driving to an appointment because if you had to slam on your brakes that would really ruin your foot. I don’t know what kind of surgery you had but I just had my tweak appointment and I am still non-weight-bearing and I’m hoping that by week four I can bear some weight so that I’m able to drive. Are you able to get another doctors excuse or put on short-term disability or limited work hours?

If you are still non-weight bearing and have returned to work, how are you getting in and out of the car?
If you are still non-weight bearing and have returned to work, how are you getting in and out of the car? I am almost 4 weeks post-op and still non-weight bearing for atleast another 4 weeks. I have a scooter to get around but I have only driven to appointments since the surgery and I've brought my daughter along with me to assist with getting in and out of the car and storing my scooter. I am supposed to go back to work on March 2nd, but I am going to see about extending my leave a little longer because its not practical for me to get in the car and put my scooter away.

I’m still NWB and have returned to work. I use a folding walker to get from the house to the car, then fold it and put it in the front seat. When I get to work, I use the walker to get to the back of the car, and trade the walker for the scooter (resting my NWB knee on the bumper while I exchange devices). I’ve been leaving the scooter in my car at night and use a rollator in the house.
Can you carpool or ask a coworker to meet you at work to help every day? I’d ask for the extension first though. And a handicap placard for the next month or two!
SupportiveHummingbird5741 I wish, but unfortunatley carpooling isnt an option. I didnt even think about the handicap placard but I am absolutely asking for that too.
I use an i walk. I had surgery on my left foot so I grab the oh shit handle and bring my self up in my jeep then take off the iwalk an place it in the passenger seat. I slide out of my car when I get out and attach my iwalk and away I go
I am in the army and I believe we can as long as it is recommended by the doctor. I am just preparing for a "no" just in case. The army is funny like that sometimes.
makes sense
I just did it. Drove left footed, easy since I learned on clutch and drive clutch vehicles on the farm. I used crutches from the drivers seat to the back to unload my scooter, left crutches in the back for when I returned with the scooter. It was just what I did for 2 months. Yes, a pain (required an extra 15 minutes) but you do what you gotta do.
a problem solver and a get it done person! ⭐️ 💜!
A folding walker ? How do you NWB with a walker? I can understand crutches.
thanks for the nice compliment!
Im 4 months now NWB in a boot. I do the same but use crutches instead of a walker for the transition. I have a walker but I do better with crutches it seems. Happy ❤️🩹!
yep, a folding walker. I just hold the surgical foot up and go really slowly. Kind of hopping along. It’s exhausting but I’m not very good with crutches.
for sure, I would email them now! It takes some time to process. Good luck!!
can u tell me what a I walk is?!
