Is it painful having the big toe nail removed?

Is it painful having the big toe nail removed? I’m scared Edited to say I have a fungal big toe I banged it and it lifted and bled. I’m waiting to see the podiatrist and they said they’d have to remove it so I don’t know if it’s permanent or not yet. I’m just scared to have the bandage taken off and anything down as it’s so sensitive
