Looks fantastic. It is wonderful that you are not feeling any pain now, but please do not be surprised if you start having some pain and swelling once you start walking. I had been taking no pain killers during week 3 post-op, and when I started to transition to sneakers at the end of that week 3, I needed to start Tylenol again ocassionally. In sneakers you will want to walk normally, but you will most likely not be able to for long. Little bably steps are definitely a start! I am off to my first PT session. Please report back on your sneaker try out!

Just left my week 7 appointment!
Just left my week 7 appointment! I can finally start to walk flat footed with a little weight (will continue using walker) and begin limited PT. My swelling and pain is virtually non existent, I haven't iced or elevated for days. He said I could move to sneakers if I want and the nurse suggested Birkenstocks. My fear is that with a sneaker I'll feel an urge to walk normally which I cannot do. I have no pain so I'm ready to actually walk! Also, I think my definition of walking is different than everyone's post surgery I went in today think I would move to sneakers and start walking NORMALLY right away. Walking like a baby short steps and flat footed is not what I consider walking lol. So here's to the next month with these directions, hopefully I can REALLY walk by week 11!

What wonderful results! 🎉🎉🎉 It's always a boost to hear positive outcomes. congratulations and I hope you ease strong and steady into walking too!
Sayble, your foot looks fantastic! I don’t see any swelling at all. So, the fact that you haven’t elevated and/iced in days, just reiterates that we all definitely do heal differently and at different rates. Congratulations on being cleared to start walking w/limited weight. That’s an accomplishment. Like you said: baby steps! Take it slow and steady. I hope you’ll enjoy pt!! It’s a great extension to the healing process for sure. Your pain is basically nonexistent 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 That’s so awesome! When you do put on your sneakers, just be careful. When you have setbacks, like I did yesterday, don’t fret too long. It’ll pass. Continued positive and smooth healing to you in your recovery journey.
Congratulations Sayble! You’ll be walking just fine by the end of this week. You’ve got this! Your foot looks great btw!
Yay! That’s awesome- looks great!! Just take it slow for a few days- you will feel when you are ready for bigger steps in sneakers. Today is my first day of really feeling better. I’m in sneakers all day with arch supports and they really help.
Do you mind me asking what you got done?
Looks amazing, what surgery was it
Healing looks great, All I own is birkenstocks....still 1 1/2 weeks out to transition....
Looks great!!
yay!
ugh and I can't walk normally as I can't bend at the ball of the foot, only flat footed almost "shuffling" baby steps for the next month 😭 I hope your PT goes well!!! So curious as to what they'll work on!
Shuffling baby steps are better than no steps! You are making progress!
thank you so much! Getting better slowly but surely!
thank you Natasha! It does feel easier having the support from you all! I need to remember to take it slow and healing takes time. I forgot, which sneakers did you end up getting?
Sayble , you’re welcome! It’s definitely nice to have support from our fellow group members. We have a beautiful community here. I haven’t purchased or ordered a new pair of shoes just yet. My toe is being pretty stubborn (stiff) right now, so I’m wearing the wide toe box shoes I ordered last year and alternating with crocs slippers. My hope is that within the next 2wks, I’ll be able to order a new pair. I’m hoping to return to work w/o restrictions August 24th, but I have until Sept 16th to return (FMLA). Your foot is absolutely beautiful!
thank you so much!!
that's so exciting! Great thinking, I'll look into arch support as well.
OptimisticPineapple5967 I had minimally invasive distal metatarsal osteotomy
I was looking at your other posts and see that you had ossiofiber! I did too! I’m 5 weeks op. I go back at 7 weeks PO for my next check as well. BUT I did not have the MIS. Doctor said to prevent recurrence I needed lapidus fusion so I know my recovery will be a bit longer. Was your doctor able to see some bone bridging on your xray?
Looks good
TaupeTurkey3933 thank you! It was MIS distal metatarsal osteotomy
which ones did you get? I ordered the classic looking sandals but it has a back on it
I probably have 1 or 2.of most popular styles of sandals even some for winter that has the shearling...but I wear my 2 strap slide ons mostly...I dont wear clog/shoe style with toe enclosures...
how exciting!! I think we skipped lapidus for me since I had a stable midfoot, at least that's my guess based on my consultation process. Have you had an xray yet? I thought it was so weird to not see a screw on the xray! And yes! I had some initial bone building at 4 weeks and they said even more this time... slowly but surely. How are you feeling??
actually I remember what he said! That I have a longer than normal bone there so that shortening it would help!
thank you! And I don't blame you one bit!!
I had an initial xray at 3.5 PO. He said it looked good, but I didn’t ask about the bone bridging. I think it’s too early at that stage. I could barely see where he put the staples/screws. I will be NWB for longer because of the lapidus. Hoping this all goes well and at some point I can say I’m glad I did it! Then maybe I’ll do the other one 😱
we'll make it through!' Day by day! Call me crazy but I'm planning my other foot for 2 months from now. If I don't do it now I never will 😬
At this point I cannot say I’d do my other one. BUT if I did, I know I wouldn’t need the lapidus fusion on the other which is a huge plus. Good luck with number 2!
