Photo taken about a week post op. I am now six weeks post op, foot is red,swollen and much hotter to the touch from non op foot. Skin has peeled off entire toe half of foot top and bottom. Still have two large scabs. One is dry but one is white and slimey. The nasty one is between two toes where a protruding bone spur was removed. I called the doc today suspecting an infection but did not receive a call back. He had given me antibiotic cushion tape which I have used for six weeks. Pencil eraser size open wound still not healed after six weeks. I had to resort to Percocet tonight

Please don’t wait to seek care at the ER or urgent care. Hot to the touch and slimy don’t sound good.

Did your doctor instruct you to use the antibiotic cushion tape for the last 6wks? I’m asking because that tape is usually changed 1-2 times per week unless instructed otherwise and discontinued after about 2wks (unless the doc has directed prolonged use). The word “slimy” describes the texture of the drainage. The wound could be macerated due to trapped fluids and/or the infection has possibly progressed. Based on the S/SX (signs and symptoms) of infection that you mentioned, I really think you should go to the ER or urgent care ASAP. **DISCLAIMER: I am no doctor, surgeon, wound specialist or nurse, but that’s what I would do if I were experiencing what you’re experiencing.**

If he does not call back, go to urgent care. He needs to see you. Can you make an emergent appointment?

I was instructed to change the cushion tape daily or twice. I change it every 12 hours

Where are your butterfly strips? They are supposed to be on while you have your stitches on. Those strips are also applied after stitches are removed to keep everything intact, unless you took a picture before they put them on.
