Please help, I am really struggling with my left foot.

Please help, I am really struggling with my left foot. I am awaiting a chiropodist appointment but in the meantime I am really suffering and have no idea what it is. In August 2022 I had a swollen toenail with some pus on my big toe (left foot shown here) so had toenail surgery for ingrowing toenail. By now (1.5 years later!) it should have healed but hasn’t really as it seems to have spread to my middle toe and slightly to second toe. You can almost see a ripple of how it has spread on my sole where the skin has peeled away - which doesn’t seem like normal ingrown toenail surgery affect to me? It feels itchy and gets red bumps at times (see third pic where you can see almost a bit of a rash). I have been suffering with this for ages now and just awaiting appointment on nhs but I am so curious as to what it is as I don’t believe ingrown toenail spreads like this and I suspect it’s something more fungal. I really love running but it has definitely impeded my progress sadly. Would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

I have experienced something similar, and recommend having the skin cultured to confirm/rule out a fungal infection. My dermatologist was able to help me with that test. It’s worth noting that it never spread to my other foot, strangely enough! I hope you’re feeling better soon! ps Tea tree foot soak was a non-prescription treatment that offered me relief before going to the doctor.

The fact that it's not healing & the coloring of the foot points to something circulatory speaking. Maybe peripheral vascular disease.

Community comment#3

See a dermatologist and maybe infectious disease dr

At least go to your primary care or an urgent care center until you can get in for the other appointment. The color of your foot is not good and it’s important to go. Especially if you have diabetes or are a little older.

Your coloring of the foot looks like raynauds. I thought it was a post on the raynauds page. Raynauds dan be secondary to other autoimmune diseases so I would get checked by a rhemotologist as well. This looks like a fungal infection on top of things….

It’s pre diabetes, the large toenail is a fungus, thriving on a high suger diet. Do you have nerve pain as well? Sore feet? Cut all sugers/honey/bread/pasta/cereals/white rice/fruit juices/all high suger (fructose)fruits, anything ending in “ose” on the pack including oats which is a grain, anything made from grains or corn, any alcohol, all soft drinks, then suffer the withdrawal symptoms, the migraine like headaches for days, as the bad bacteria dying floods your system, drink lots of water. Do that for 6 - 8 weeks and you’ll see a huge improvement in your feet and your health.

Community comment#17

Raynaud's disease plus fungal infection?

Community comment#18

It could be chilblains by the colour of your skin. I just had my hip replacement cancelled due to ruptured, septic chilblains.

Community comment#19

I’d go to ER immediately infection could have led to sepsis

I had right big toe pain, top of big toe behind the nail to first joint. Also pain just under the big toe. I had a slew of tests and was never given a diagnosis. I also had discoloration in and around my right foot, to include near the top of my big toe. My doctor finally began treating it like peripheral neuropathy/Vascular disease and prescribed Hydroxychloriquine Sulfate 200mg tablets. Dosing is prescribed based on you. I take a tablet in a.m. and one in p.m. Has nearly eliminated the pain. I could ask to increase dosing, but have not at this point. I had to have my eyes tested to get a baseline. This medication has a small chance for causing long term issues with sight. I was told by optometrist that they find this in smaller stature females, so something to think about and consider before taking. I also am wearing Altra tennis shoes one size bigger than my foot with custom orthotics. Gives me my best comfort. I was in pain for over three years trying to get resolution. I should also add I have a blood disorder that causes clotting, so I am on chronic warfarin. Again, sharing in case you have blood clotting issues. I wish you well and the best of luck.
