Will shock wave therapy break up a bone spur?
Community discussion
This would be a very severe case, but Dr.
This would be a very severe case, but Dr. Staschiak said it is a fairly accurate image of what PF looks like when tissues become calcified. Chronic Plantar Fasciosis. He said this is more severe than what most people have. Most people don’t have this much build up. But this can give you somewhat of an idea of what’s going on and why it hurts so bad. The calcification prevents blood from flowing into the cells. The tissues are dying. His procedure breaks up the calcification. It is the same machine used to break up kidney stones. You must be fully numbed, but it is a one time procedure and it is extremely effective. He cured my right foot completely and now my left foot is well on its way. I still have a few more weeks before it will be completely healed. PLEASE NOTE: This is HIGH intensity shockwave therapy. Inevitably, there will be somebody in the comments saying that they had this and it didn’t work, but they are most likely talking about regular intensity shockwave therapy. That is NOT the same procedure at all. Best of luck! Happy to share what I know.

Thank you for sharing Jenny! How many weeks are you now after your last treatment on your left foot? How is it so far?
Is there a special doctor to go to for this? My podiatrist doesnt offer this. He recommended surgery but I’m trying to that.
Jenny, I just had my shockwave with dr Staschiak this past Friday. He did both of my feet since I live so far away. The procedure was no problem, but those shots!!! I know it will be worth it!!
I’m almost certain that's what my feet look like after 25 years of no relief from PF. One day maybe I'll be able to afford to go get this done.
Currently having normal shockwave therapy in Australia, and going to work my way up the foot 🙈
I wish it worked for me
May I ask what the Damages is $?
So do you think a diet change can help as well? I notice my feet are heavier after drinking and eating a lot
- just watch her videos!!
it doesn’t need to. Bone spurs are not painful whatsoever. I’ve had three different podiatrists Tell me that. And since I have had my procedures and cured the PF, my bone spurs are not bothering me at all.
ElegantLobster4422 you’re welcome! I’m about four weeks out approximately. I’m not completely healed yet but I’m doing so much better. I’ve been going on walks and getting around 4 to 6000 steps before I feel any pain at all. I’ve been listening to my body and as soon as I start to feel the pain I end the walk. I’m well on my way to full recovery.
I have had 6 shockwave treatments and I can walk 4-6k steps before I have mild pain!
this is different than the regular intensity shock wave treatments. This is a one time procedure where you have to be fully numbed and it takes up to 16 weeks to be fully healed. I’ve still got several weeks of healing to go.
yes you’re correct it’s different. All I was saying is regular shockwave therapy works!
my doctor refuses to do the surgery. He says they are terrible and often injured people for life. He said the foot eventually can just collapse and you have to wear orthotics for the rest of your life. There are only a few few doctors in the United States to own the machine to do this. I’m not sure where the other. This doctor is in Columbus, Ohio. I think this is the video where he discusses the surgery.
I would love his info! I live about 2 hrs outside Columbus and am desperate to cure my right foot. Does insurance cover this or no?
it doesn’t cover it, sadly. He has a payment plan. Dr. Staschiak mid Ohio foot and ankle
that is incredible! Happy for you. Yes those shots about sent me out of my chair. I had to get nine of them in my right foot, the one he did a couple years ago. Thankfully he’s got it narrowed down to three.
the procedure requires shots?
yes to numb the pain from the procedure.
they do offer financing through care credit!
definitely check into credit.
did you do the extreme version where they have to numb your foot with a needle?
who did you go to? If doctor Staschiak did yours and it did not work, he will do it again for free. He will not quit until you are healed. If it’s somebody else that did it, I don’t know about that. I know Dr. S has a special technique.
Beaver Valley Foot Clinic in Pittsburgh
I think it might be a matter of poor technique. Dr. S cure is pretty much everyone. Does your doctor offer a redo for free? Dr. S. offers a second round for free for the rare 2% that might need it. He said he’s never had to do it three times. Did your doctor use ultrasound during the procedure? To make sure he’s getting every bit of it.
this was a few years ago, I don’t remember if she used ultrasound or not but i didn’t want to go back again, I feel like it made me a little worse tbh!! But if I try again I may only do one foot at a time instead of both together! I use to live in Columbus Oh so I’m very familiar with that area.. I may give it a try, we’ll see!
I’m sorry that worked out that way for you. You might consider having your imaging sent to Doctor staschiak so he can see what’s going on inside of there and tell you what can be done. He would look at that for free I’m pretty sure. Best of luck and I hope you get it straightened out!
Thank you
One of my doctors told me that he and his colleagues used to offer the high power shockwave treatment and had machines, but stopped offering it and got rid of their machines because the success rate was too low. Also, according to him, the insurance companies stopped covering this treatment because it was determined ineffective.
Yes, I had both feet numbed up real good
Unfortunately it doesn’t work for everyone
the insurance companies stopped covering it because it is so effective. It’s cheaper for them to cover the surgery because nobody wants to get that done. The success rate is only about 30%. Whereas hswt is closer to 98. Dr. Staschiak is curing this every day.
More importantly, what causes these calcium deposits? Vitamin D without enough K2 will leach calcium buildup into capillaries, veins & arteries.
Fantastic post including the remarkable visuals.
But if this isn't true that treatment sounds like it could do a lot of harm.
I had my shockwave with Dr. Staschiak this past Tuesday.😊
Is this covered by insurance? It should be!
MagicalCorgi3426 $2400 per foot. They can add stem sells for extra if recommended by Dr. Can't remember what the add in is. 🤔
MagicalCorgi3426 2400
MagicalCorgi3426 try focused shockwave. It’s less expensive and you may have good results. Focused may be around $100-150 per visit. But shop around. Radial shockwave isn’t intense enough. Focused is a very quiet machine, there shouldn’t be the jack hammer experience.
I think it probably can help in the beginning stages. If you don’t let it get to this point. But after the tissues have calcified not much can help besides busting it up and letting it drain itself out through the lymphatic system.
Interesting! Appreciate this information 😊
you are welcome!
whose videos?
Jenny, the one who posted this.
he uses ultrasound to check for this. And he uses his ultrasound as he’s doing the procedure to make sure he’s only hitting the calcification. It’s the same machine used to bust up. Kidney stones. He’s been doing this procedure for 30 years.
how are you feeling? Keep us posted on your healing journey!
I’m feeling great and continuing to heal. I’m able to walk more each day with very little pain, and I’m really looking forward to being completely pain-free.😊
That’s awesome! 👏
PassionateGoose5403 no, it used to be but it's not anymore. He had to buy his own machine. It's like $2500 per foot.
