⭐️ UPDATED TO ADD POST-OP PICS 6 DAYS AFTER SURGERY .. VERY SWOLLEN (SAUSAGE TOES 🐷) BUT OK OTHERWISE ⭐️ St Petersburg, FL: Yesterday i had my MIS Austin/Akin bunionectomy plus a second toe procedure … either 2nd toe Weil metatarsal osteotomy or a 2nd toe arthroplasty. I’m not sure which 2nd toe procedure he went with and can’t tell from sutures. It was an inter-operative decision for the 2nd toe and I’m sure he told my husband what he did. But my husband didn’t retain that info lol. I was in post op recovery when he spoke with my husband afterwards so I haven’t spoke with my surgeon yet. Anesthesia was MAC (monitored sedation) with a regional nerve block — no general anesthesia or intubation. No pain whatsoever yet and have been immediately weight bearing in my boot. Don’t need any help getting around. So far, really great! Right toe still wanting to lean right so I’ve been instructed to stuff gauze between big toe and 2nd toe as it settles into its new position. Wild to see the excess skin my massive bunion left behind. Haven’t seen my actual foot yet but from the post op pic I think it looks good! I’ll do my left foot later this year. I had bunion surgery along with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal osteotomies on January 16th. I received a nerve block during the procedure. I was non weight bearing for one month, then progressed to wbat in a boot for about two weeks. As soon as I started weight bearing, I noticed my foot dragging. Since then, I haven’t been able to walk without assistive devices. My ankle and leg feel extremely weak almost like they’re asleep. I recently had an MRI and am scheduled to see a neurologist next week to hopefully get some answers. I’ve been going to physical therapy twice a week for over a month and have seen some improvement, but progress has been extremely slow. My PT recommended requesting an AFO to help with walking, which I’ve already discussed with my orthopedic surgeon. Has anyone dealt with something like this or have any insight? I'm still very confident that MIS surgery will be the best course of action. Although I originally wanted both my bunions corrected, we decided that we'd tackle my right foot first. I'm 49 and I've read that some people have doubts about undergoing this procedure, but please remember that although there is always a risk, bunion surgery has a 90% satisfaction rate. I get NO money/sponsorship/endorsements from any bunion company! 😂 You have to weigh up your level of discomfort do what you feel is right for you. But we should all be able to walk pain free, especially when that pain and/or discomfort gets progressively worse. I just wish I looked into this sooner. I will keep you posted.
