After a little guidance, went to Doctor 18 months ago with suspected hammer toe on right foot 2nd toe. Finally got to see orthopedics last week after several X-rays turns out I have bunions starting and hammer toe, consultant wants to operate sooner rather than later, I had minimal pain from this (I do get plantar fasciitis) until tonight when walking I got a stabbing pain in my big toe that radiated across the ball of my foot (which hours later is now throbbing). Comment Linda Oshman I would get another opinion. I always get suspicious when a doctor wants to do something right away. (I always wonder if maybe he's been looking at a Porsche LOL). See what your options are. The usual advice is stop wearing the shoes that bother you, like narrow across the front and heels. They won't want you in those shoes anyway even if you have the surgery. If it's not bothering you in better shoes, then I would probably leave it alone. I think hammer toes may be a more difficult surgery than a bunion repair, but that's just my opinion.

I do however get pain either side of my foot after prolonged standing /walking or when wearing nice girlie shoes. I was a stiletto wearer for many years until my back went. Now it’s trainers or open toe sandles
