First Podiatrist Appointment yesterday was referred to Podiatrist Surgeon. Today I have already filled an online Questionnaire & have Triage telephone consultation on Monday ! I had a fusion on my right (arthritis) and akin/osteo on the left. My surgeon had me weight bearing from day 1. I was struggling with my bunions for a number of years. Wore orthotics and good quality shoes but knew they were only getting worse (pain). I like to run, 5km - 21km. 6 years ago I was training for a half marathon and ended up with a fracture in my 3rd toe. My podiatrist said it would likely keep occurring if I kept running. Being Covid, no fun runs, no travel, and could WFH - I was lucky to get into a good orthopaedic surgeon (Sydney). Good news - through run/walk and building up over the years, I finally ran my first full marathon aged 59. No blisters, no big toe pain. 6hrs+ on my feet. For recovery I used a c25 program to build up carefully. Walking - fast walking - slow jogging, speed work. Especially with my fusion I actually find slow jogging easier than walking. He removed the proximal interphalangeal joint and then drilled down through the distal, intermediate, and proximal phalanges before threading a wire through the holes. Welp, earlier tonight I noticed that the wire, which my surgeon had clipped down flush to the skin, now extends out of my 3rd toe by 3-4cm and the office is closed for the weekend. I'm on ABs "just in case" and my foot is swollen but it's also noticeably warmer than the other foot. It isn't unexpected that the swollen area would be warmer, the increased blood and fluid would be warmer than a unaffected area, but I haven't looked at them yet, as I'm not supposed to remove the dressing for another 24 hours, so I have no idea what the incisions look like. The hospital where it was done is close by, and while I have no problem with going to A&E/ED, I don't know if I'm at that is that level of severity yet.
