Post-bunion surgery: dealing with new hammertoe problems

Archive date 18 archived replies

Hello everyone! I had two surgeries last year, initially it was to fix my bunion and remove a Morton’s neuroma. The surgeon removed bone from my second toe during this surgery. 6weeks healing time. It went downhill from there. I ended up getting a hammertoe which I had to have another surgery for. 8 weeks healing time. I have so much pain, my second toe sticks up because he over corrected the hammertoe, my bunion is worse than my first surgery. I get horrible Charlie like cramps and have constant pain. I saw another surgeon who told me I needed surgery to fix everything the first surgeon did. I am very upset about this because I know the pain of the surgery but I know I have to get it fixed.

you got a hammertoe after first surgery? I hear you I just had revision for a non union s/p failed hammertoe. Wasn't sticking up it was bent under and dropped down

I hope you find great relief with this surgeon's strategy!

I’m so sorry, that sounds so stressful. Maybe consider getting a couple more opinions - it never hurts.

I’m so sorry, I hope you get some relief and your next surgery is successful…. Did you at least get any relief from the neuroma removal? I have a neuroma and it’s so painful, I can’t walk by the end of the day.

Sending well wishes, 💕

yes. He removed bone from that toe, honestly I don’t remember why but didn’t question it because he’s the surgeon 😕. I then got the hammertoe so the second surgery he put a pin in it and took out hardware from the first surgery.

honestly the pain from the initial surgery and all that’s followed I can’t say. My next surgery will also be another neuroma removal.
