I go tomorrow at 6 am for double bunion removal. Help calm my nerves. I don't understand how I will get around to go the bathroom, get food, etc. How do I shower? Any tips appreciated.

What type of bunion surgery are you getting done? Do you have to travel up and down stairs? Will you have any help?

Have faith in your surgeon. He knows what he is doing and probably has done hundreds of these surgerys. On April 7/2026 I had a big toe bunion/Taylor's bunion/ hammer toe correction/ and a Morton's neuroma removed on my left foot. I bought everything I needed on Facebook Market place. I had a bathtub chair and crutches. My scooter/knee rover gets me around my house.

Do you know if you’ll be able to weight bear immediately or not?

I had both done 21 years ago & now just had one done & swear it was easier with both & i had a 6-year old to entertain & a dog to let out, but I was a lot fitter then. Have a box by the bed with all the stuff you need - remotes for tv, hand cream, tablets, puzzles, notepad & pen, tissues, snacks, wash bag etc. Lots of water. Crutches to get to the loo. I'd stay upstairs & get hubby to leave you a flask of soup for lunch. Good luck xx

Definitely get a shower chair if you’re doing both. And you have to get leg covers for showers. Amazon has them! When I had mine done, I used a knee scooter to help me get around, even in my house. I carried a bag with me on the scooter of water, snacks, pain meds. Good luck!

Ashley, if you won't be able to put weight on your feet, you will definitely need someone to help you. Can a neighbor come over if you need to go to the bathroom? Will you be using a wheelchair? Set up a "nest" on the first floor of your house. Be sure you have everything you need before your husband walks out the door. You will need help atleast the first two weeks. Maybe hire someone to come in and help. It really depends which surgery you will be having. MIS most people can walk pretty quickly but if it is more invasive, you won't be able to walk for atleast a month. I am not trying to freak you out. I am just being realistic.

If the surgery is done right you cannot bear weight for weeks so how do you get around unless in a wheelchair?

how are you doing?

I'm not sure of the type. I do have stairs. I will have help the first day, but then my husband and kids will be at school/work after that each day.

I would use a wheelchair if I were you. I just had one done so that’s why I used a knee scooter. But if you have a surgery boot on, you’ll be able to heel walk mostly, but I would suggest the first three days, you have support to help you out. The first three days were very painful for me. But just make sure you’re using the pain meds as prescribed, not waiting for the pain.

I'm doing ok. I have been staying up with my meds so the pain has been manageable for the most part. I don't enjoy walking to the bathroom because putting my "sandals" on takes longer than going to the bathroom with my cane. I am getting ready to attempt my first shower so I am a little nervous. Oh, and the top of my feet feel super itchy today!
