Seen surgeon x rays show bunion but arthritis quite bad in big toe. He advises fusion which initially I thought ok I'd go along with. Now I'm having doubts. I don't wear stilettos or massive heels but I do like my shoes and knowing I'll never be able to wear more than 2cm heels or have to wear ghastly ( in my opinion) wedges is really bothering me. I'm also short and having lost my 6ft husband last year I need my tiptoes daily to reach things. So although I'm nearly 70 I'm really active and while I don't run marathons I do like long walks So now I'm thinking I'd rather have the joint replaced I'm aware it's a 5-10 year life on it but my theory is by then I may well be less bothered and it can be fused then if necessary. If I fuse first then no joint replacement. Recovery looks same from my research. Any advice on this please Please can someone who has been in this situation advise me. Christine Sinclair-Wellings If you have Arthritis in your feet after having an exray, and told your bunions need to be done. How can that make your feet feel better.. because you will still have Arthritis in your feet.. My pain isn’t as great on the right side of my foot, however I’ve gone barefoot on purpose this week around the house and there are pressure points. For those of you that have had it done, is it worth it IN YOUR OPINION (keep it nice please) to do the 4th and 5th or less is better? I put off the surgery as I was told to not do it until it hurt enough. No one tells you what enough is. I waited until it was hard to walk and hurt and I was falling. I had my left foot surgery May 25th as it was the worst of the two and the one giving me the most pain. Last week I got the all clear to walk on my toes, shower like a normal person without the bath chair and bag around my leg. I can wear open toed shoes on both feet. I get to be normal. So… I work in education. I will be on my feet most of the day. I know there will be swelling. What shoes/sandals do I need to get in transition? Right now everything is too tight on my operated foot due to swelling and seems not padded enough it seems. What do I need? When did you all get your other foot done after the first? I’m trying Morton inserts and they seem to help somewhat but it’s limited. Toe spacers help at times. I’m just starting pt and it’s ok. I can’t walk long distances and today tried golf for the first time and the walking just killed me my toe was really aching. I feel it’s limiting my quality of living and it’s frustrating. I don’t want to rush into surgery because I know the recovery is long and a lot of times there r still issues afterward. At what point do you guys decide on surgery?
