UPDATE... been to Northwich foot clinic, feeling very positive, got insoles with wedges attached after watching myself walk I can understand why the bursa is not getting better I've been getting so frustrated not being able to get outdoors for a decent walk . I've been diagnosed with Adventitial bursitis involving the plantar surface at the level of the 5th metatarsal head , ive never had problems before and had a tailors bunion for many years, my foot is very painful when exercising and wearing any type of footwear hurts the top and side of my foot . I'm wondering if anybody else had similar and how to help it. ?? . I'm still waiting for an orthopaedic specialist appointment on the NHS which could take up to 52 weeks. I've tried RICE, paracetamol, ibuprofen, compresses, rock tape, toe separators, heat , ibuprofen gels, tens machine, foot spa, massagers, new insoles, expensive socks etc. Nothing helps I'm frightened that I will never get back out there.

Have you tried a few days of regularly taking NSAIDS? That's the only way I can calm down my angry bursitis in my bunionette flares despite wide shoes, ice, elevation, etc. Was just at the podiatrist last week and he confirmed that if they work, take them for up to week to get the bursitis under control. Believe it or not, light walking seems to help it too once I get the pain under control by half. Perhaps the blood flow is why.

I’ve had this exact issue since May 2025. Done everything as well - rest, PT, acupuncture, cortisone shot, padding, new insoles/shoes, toe spacers, and it persists. No foot pain at all prior. What I started doing two weeks ago is placing a metatarsal pad / neuroma pad proximal to my fifth met head. I do think it is helping some, although it still hurts daily. Putting the pad behind the tender area has been most helpful so far. I also miss long walks!
