I’m new to the group and so glad I found it. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I have nerve damage in my foot. Horrible life altering constant pain. This surfaced after bunion surgery. Did I have it previously? No one seems to know. My long time podiatrist says he’s never seen a problem quite like mine. This concerns me. How is anyone unique? Anyway he wants to shorten my second toe to eliminate problem. Claims 96% success rate. Getting a second opinion. Have any of you done this surgery to shorten your toe. Did it cure your pain? I really appreciate any input.

Saw a Podiatrist once ... I wouldn't go bad to another one👣 The "Consult" Appt was useless; would've been better to go for a Pedi LoL

No surgeries, but my bunion pushes on the second toe. I wear a toe separator most of the time

yes, I had this surgery on both 2nd toes. The bones were too long and pushed into the ball of my feet and tore the ball tendons. severe pain and shouldn't stand for more than 10 minutes. I had it done 7 years ago. Yes, the pain is much much better but I still have to be very careful on the shoes I wear. Just ordered orthotics from this company as I am going to Europe soon and have much anxiety about it. Dr. Weil Jr. in Des Plaines, IL did the surgery.

The only thing that helped my nerve pain was doing Regenexx injections. Might be something to look into.

I had complex foot surgery six months ago and I'm still having nerve pain, but it has diminished some. I take gabapentin and acetameniphen. Only recently has the surgeon fessed up that he cut a couple of nerves during the surgery. I feel your pain.

I think you mean a Weil Osteotomy. I have been considering this for a few years. I’ve had almost constant foot pain…ball of foot, mainly under second toes…for over 12 years and spent way too much on custom orthotics and “good” shoes with little relief. This procedure was suggested to me by a foot ortho….not a podiatrist….a few years ago. I’m really on the fence about it. If anyone has had this surgery for a long second toe, maybe you could comment here?

Go to an AENS Dr. They specialize in the nerves in feet and have saved mine. There are not many of them but they know feet better than even podiatrist

Finally got my orthotics. Over 2 months. Breaking them in slowly. I think they might just work

It was a leading orthopedist at a university hospital that botched my foot surgery. Hope you have better luck.

it put the foot in proper order not touching second toe. I usually wear vionic sandals. If you have closed toe shoes you need a wide toe box. I wear it at night with a short sock over it.
