Almost healed nail
I’ve had nail fungus on my big toe for years. I tried every cure there is except for oral medication. Nothing worked. Finally I started putting hexane free, cold pressed, organic castor oil on my nail all day and all night with a bandaid on. I applied it once in the morning with a bandaid and once at night. My nail was horrible before and now it’s almost clear (it’s been about 6 months). It still needs to grow in on the sides a bit better but it’s clear!

Has anyone got their toenails removed, maybe even permanently and is it worth it? I have had ongoing fungus and dermatitis for years, sadly I am not a candidate for terbinafine as I have liver disease. I have tried every remedy in the book creams , toenail laquer, vicks, tea tree oil, oregeno oil, vinegar, listerine and so on. I am tired. I have to shave down my toenail multiple times with a drimmel tool. It grows back thicker... My podiatrist said the only option is toenail removal or laser, she said there is not much effectiveness with laser because the fungus is already to deep. the toenail removal would only work if it is permanent.. I cannot put acrylics or anything over the fungus as that would make it worse.... I have asked for jublia she said that cost out of pocket about 1,000 and it is not as effective as oral.....

Update 6/6/26: The white iodine is currently unavailable on Amazon. Look for a topical iodine with the only ingredient being 2% iodine. I’ve had several ask me for the routine that I used to cure my fungus. It took a year of following this routine daily to grow them out. I soaked in white iodine for 1 minute per toe. I put the iodine in 2” glass bowls I purchased on Amazon. (Put the bowls in a disposable casserole pan because they spill). I soaked in it twice per day for one week, then once per day for another week, then go to three times a week, then two times a week and then once per week until it’s grown out. Take a nail file and scuff the entire surface of the nail for better absorption once per week. Dispose of the nail file after each use. (I cut the nail files in thirds.) I also soak in epsom salt for 20 min per week and clean around and underneath the nails with nail tools. Keep the nails short. On the non- iodine days I apply Jublia. (My insurance didn’t cover it but there is a manufacturer coupon available). I’ve had success with this combo.
