Is it painful having the big toe nail removed? I'm scared. Edited to say I have a fungal big toe I banged it and it lifted and bled. I'm waiting to see the podiatrist and they said they'd have to remove it so I don't know if it's permanent or not yet. I'm just scared to have the bandage taken off and anything done as it's so sensitive.

I had both of my big toenails removed at the exact same time and I will tell you it sucked the first few days. I was limping bad. But it is totally worth it and my fungus did not grow back with the nails fortunately.

Take some ibuprofen with you. When the numbness wore off it was bad until ibuprofen kicked in

Had mine done in January... didn't feel it while they were doing it but it was very sore in the days to follow. So far so good with it healing. Happy got it done.

A podiatrist will give you a local anaesthetic. It will be painless. Bit sore after local wears off. Take NSAIDs and Paracetamol if you're allowed. Temporary best if it's appropriate.

I had one removed in 2022 it was very painful but Dr admitted it shouldn't have hurt that much and there's a possibility he didn't numb it enough as I felt everything during removal. It's grown back worse for me too.

Mine was surprisingly easy. Part of the removal did hurt, a lot. I didn't want to wait for another anesthetic injection to take effect so I just gritted my teeth for a few more seconds. After I was bandaged up, the recovery was fine.
