What other strategies do you team up with Terbinafine?

Archive date 55 archived replies

What other strategies do you team up with Terbinafine? I've just started the tablets yesterday and started washing the feet 3 times a day, then applying Vicks to nails. Also sanding down nails a little once a week. Any thoughts or better suggestions? Thanks fungal friends

It prepares the nail and surrounding tissue to more readily be able to absorb what ever topical fungus killer you choose to use. Stratus Urea 20% Cream is a higher concentration keratolytic emollient that is used for softening and moisturizing the tissues of the skin and nails. This topically applied cream provides hydration and gentle exfoliation to help revitalize extremely dry skin and improve its elasticity.

And if you really want to go on the attack, stick your toes in this for a half an hour a day

Hi Stephen! Any progress already? I remember doc saying No Coffee and NO alchohol. Also, i think i read some where that ketogenic diet should help also...

Hey thanks for checking in! I don't drink coffee or alcohol anyway! So far I've got rid of the athletes foot and kept taking the pills. I sanded the nails down a few weeks ago, still too early to notice a difference I'd think.

No oder, cider

The tablets will do the trick. It’s getting to the nail bed where the fungus resides. How long is your course of treatment?

Community comment#35

Also, eventually you want to throw away all your socks and replace them.

I took the terbinafine for 5 months and my toenail kept reinfecting. I was doing apple cider vinegar soaks and tea tree oil daily, also filing it down to really get it in there. Nothing worked so I finally just cut literally ALL of my infected toenail off (almost 1/2 my big toenail), there is a crumbly yellow fungus that grows so thick underneath! Under that, there was skin because the nailbed is separated by the fungus which doesn’t adhere to the nail. I trimmed all of it back and I feel SO MUCH BETTER, I still use vinegar and clean it well daily and apply tea tree oil. After 2 years, I’m excited to have my toenail healthy again!!

thanks I'll read up on it. Only 3 weeks in so as progress goes it seems ok. Great of you to support my effort 😁

That’s a little over 90 days. I say keep them trimmed, continue to trim away the fungus nail. You can use a antifungal topical in concert with the pills. Keep them clean and dry. You can get the fungus again if it’s in your shoes and socks.

Looks good. I would use caution with the Vick’s. Some members in this group had secondary infections with the use of Vick’s because it would irritate the skin so bad that it would open it up to opportunistic infections. I think oral and an OTC topical: spray will suffice. Dry feet and new socks. That’s what I’m doing.

This is what it looks like 31 weeks later…still trying to close it in! I put tons of Vicks vapor rub on it and clean it out with a toothbrush every week. Slowly but surely!!

I was sanding it down too, the buildup was all way underneath, I couldn’t believe how thick and gross it was. And the skin underneath doesn’t really adhere to it so it was painless to cut off
