Ongoing pain and swelling after neuroma and bunion surgery

Archive date 15 archived replies

Hi all. Just wondering if this is something to be concerned about. I had bunion removed and a Morton’s neuroma 8th May this year. I have had on going pain and swelling ever since. Can’t put weight on the ball of my foot. Don’t know what shoes to even wear as everything makes it worst I do have a phone consult with the specialist at the end of the month Thank you

It is difficult to be specific from limited information, Robyn, but there is the possibility of a complex pain syndrome. Having both bunion surgery and neuroma surgery together carries a small risk of this pain problem. I write for consultingfootpain, and you will find more information there. But of course, be guided by your clinician, but raise the syndrome I mentioned. https://www.davidtollafieldauthor.com/.../health...

That does look concerning I would recommend that you get a second opinion

that could be an allergy to Hardware. There’s definitely edema in the bone.

Your surgeon's report says no evidence of Morton's neuroma.

Were you having pain in this part of your foot prior to surgery? Could also possibly be rheumatoid arthritis that’s now getting worse.

I would go to a rehab doctor and get a prolotherapy shot you may have scar tissue and capsulitis

I was thinking that also. It seems to be a long time to still be having this sort of trouble. The sesamoid bone was also a problem before surgery and I feel the surgery has made that more of an issue.

yes I was. They have done blood test to rule rheumatoid out 🤷‍♀️ Just feels like a never ending roller coaster.

you can have ‘normal’ blood test results and still have RA. I am seronegative meaning all my labs look ‘normal’. I had a lot of issues with foot pain before getting on RA meds
