I’m nearly 4 months post op and still can’t fit into any of my old trainers - has anyone else experienced this? Shared post Louise Yogini Day 32 post-op. Just had my first physical therapy session. First she evaluated both my leg and foot strength, balance and range of motion. Then she massaged around my incision to break up some of the scar tissue (I still have some of the scab, so she avoided those areas). The massage also included moving my toes around to help regain mobility. Next were the exercises which were focused on regaining range of motion. Some of them were easy and some of them were very challenging. She gave me a tip about that rush of blood feeling that I get when dangling the leg: she said to move the ankle/ foot around to get the blood/fluids moving around. I am sitting at my desk right now, and it definitely helps. After the exercises, she put a cold therapy machine with compression on my foot for 15 minutes. She said that everyone loves the massage and icing, and the exercises in the middle is the hard part! She provided a link to a portal with videos of my exercises. I am supposed to do them 2 to 3 times a day. My foot is sore now, but it feels more "alive," if that makes any sense. Going to take some Tylenol and celebrate that this is another step in the right direction (no pun intended). Day 32 post-op. Just had my first physical therapy session. During my session, as usual, my therapist performed the edema massage and was able to loosen and remove more dead skin from my incision area. 😀 Good stuff, right? But here’s where things changed. She started performing the joint exercises on my toe. After approx 5 minutes of her performing the passive dorsiflexion exercise, I started having minimal pain. Not too bad, just noticeable. After another 10 minutes or so, the pain increased to mild and then quickly to moderate. It was in my entire toe (top, l-side and underneath it). The majority of the pain was focused in the top area where the screws are and underneath my toe. She explained that it’s most likely due to the stiffness, which has become so aggravating and has gotten on my nerve.😡 After massaging it again, she had me go to the therapy gym and walk on the treadmill in order for her to assess my gait, balance, stride and heel to toe push-off. It was noticeable immediately that I was compensating. I kept putting most of my weight on the r-side of my foot.🤦🏾‍♀️ Due to the stiffness and compensating, I am to focus on the following exercises: -standing heel raises -seated heel raises -walking on my treadmill at home to improve weight shifting and heel to toe push-off -single leg stances for 15 >seconds 3x daily Now, I know that I’m still early in my recovery journey but still. At 5wks, I can’t help but feel a little sad today. 😩 **I posted a pic of today’s post pt note (on the left), as well as the one from last wk (on the right). My surgeon advised me to start transitioning to sneakers this week. I’m bringing them to physical therapy tonight to try them out. How did everyone else successfully do so? I guess a few hours here and there until I’m comfortable wearing them full time? Thank you in advance! Shared post Tiffany Sellers Im scheduled for bunion surgery on August 17th. In the mean time this is my situation. I had an achillies tendon flare up, woke up and couldn't walk. My surgeon said thisnwill not change our plan so I guess im getting practice for the surgery 🤦🏾‍♀️ I bought a pair of Hokas yesterday as my right foot (the good one) was hurting from the scooting motion on my knee scooter. I bought the knee pillow to elevate, ice packs, knee scooter, shower cover and i already have a shower chair and walker from a previous surgery. Any suggestions for what else I will need during recovery? Im scheduled for bunion surgery on August 17th. In the mean time this is my situation.
