Day 34 post-op. Walked the dogs! Not far, just around the block. I have been scared to do this because they are pullers and take off after bunnies, squirrels, etc. They pulled hard once, and I did not lose my balance. That was scary but also gave me confidence. One of the life things I have missed is walking them a few miles a day. It all starts with one around the block. 😀 Today is my third day of doing PT exercises, and I feel like mobility is retuning slowly. It is not too bad lifting the toe up. But the toe scrunches trying to pick up a towel are all about effort and not the goal. The physical therapist said that I just need to make an effort, even if I cannot scrunch. I have been wearing my Crocs all the time at home, and the PT wants me to wear my Hokas more, trying to extend them time I can tolerate them. I have them on now. Let's see how long I can go. I can finally start to walk flat footed with a little weight (will continue using walker) and begin limited PT. My swelling and pain is virtually non existent, I haven't iced or elevated for days. He said I could move to sneakers if I want and the nurse suggested Birkenstocks. My fear is that with a sneaker I'll feel an urge to walk normally which I cannot do. I have no pain so I'm ready to actually walk! Also, I think my definition of walking is different than everyone's post surgery😂 I went in today think I would move to sneakers and start walking NORMALLY right away. Walking like a baby short steps and flat footed is not what I consider walking lol. So here's to the next month with these directions, hopefully I can REALLY walk by week 11! Pain and swelling improving slowly though my foot still definitely prefers being iced and elevated most of the time. I go back to work tomorrow (I work from home). Nervous about sitting at my desk even with my leg up so will see how it goes. Highly recommend the pictured foot/ankle pillow. My neighbor had surgery on her femur and lent this to me and it’s been so helpful. I was instructed to have the surgical shoe on 24/7 but after the first 4 days or so I developed the beginning of a pressure sore on my heel. Now I mostly use this when I’m sleeping and it’s helped a lot. I am lucky that I don’t tend to move a lot in my sleep so this may not be best for everyone but for me it’s been huge.
