Hi Kerry. I feel your pain. I too gave my achillies tendon in right foot with now tendonopathy. It’s calcified. So painful. I recommend wearing slightly heels with padding. And doing your lifts with them on. Go up on good foot then slowly move weight to bad foot. Not too many. Very gradual. I rub a cream into my feet at night as it pains all night. I’ll send a photo of cream tomorrow. In bed now lol. I also had an injection into my heel. PCP look into it. Google my specialist. Didnt think it would work for me but wow factor. Instant relief. It lasted about 4 weeks. Having my second one in two weeks. Usually three months apart. It’s not under Medicare unfortunately but well worth investigating happy to private chat if you like. Good luck

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice please?
Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice please? I have a partially torn achilles tendon which the docs won't do anything about unless it ruptures. It's getting more and more painful and I can't take pain meds other than paracetamol. I've been looking online and it says the best thing to try and build up strength is calf raises on the stairs but I also have osteoarthritis in my big toe joints which makes that exercise almost impossible for me. Does anyone have any other strengthening exercises that I can try to strengthen the achilles and try and reduce the pain? Also if anyone has any ideas on how to relieve calf tightness, that might help reduce the pain too. My calves are super tight all the time due to my unnatural walking gait. I try to massage them myself, soak in the bath, stretch them out, etc but they're always tight. Many thanks for any ideas to try!

No strengthening exercises at all! You should be in a boot for 6-8 weeks of REST to allow it to heal. Then you can begin PT and strengthening.
Like others said, rest and heal first. For rehab when possible: Try using soft and super soft foam rollers from OPTP (occupational and physical therapy products; from their website or Amazon). Not only can you roll up and down your legs you can do a side to side movement called “shearing”. That really helps my tight calves which can actually cause one of my knees to lock up. There are melt method videos on YouTube about this. That can really loosen up your legs and tight muscles and fascia. Once I loosen my calves, no more knee pain. It can be done gently by you - but you’ll need to take care of that Achilles tendon (bandage it?). You can also try the medmassager or the Hyako R1pro massager- these are gentle vibration tools- not percussion massagers. Also, consider using a stretch strap to stretch your calves (when you’re able). OPTP also has a pro model stretch strap and instructions. A higher priced version would be the castleflex stretch strap - but it would be easier to overdo it with that, considering your injury. Try those. Good luck
I ruptured my Achilles and when it fully healed (8 mo ths) did gentle exercises with a large rubber resistance band. .also did standing double heel raises not dip raises on stairs.
I'd be surprised if you don't walk away with more answers than even the best paid physio and a plan to solve the tightness without stretching ☺️ DM me some days you have available for a whatsapp pro bono call, I haven't worked with someone from the UK yet so consider it a fair trade. you'll feel the difference in 30 minutes on your calf, knee and leg. Humbly, David
thanks for the advice. Apologies I should have specified that I'm in the UK. We don't have a lot of private healthcare here, we have the NHS which unfortunately is struggling so will not do anything to help until it ruptures. I also can't have any pain meds other than paracetamol which includes topical creams because I'm pregnant so can't use anything with ibuprofen etc. This is why I'm literally just having to try and manage with stretches and exercises. Unfortunately I can't really lift onto my toes at all due to the osteoarthritis pain in my toes which I why I'm looking for alternative exercises.😟 Chronic foot pain truly is the worst though. It literally affects everything! 😔
Anonymous member 412 I don't have any way of getting a boot... I rest when I can and ice it when it is bad.
Have you not seen a Dr? If you know you have a partial tear, it needs to be immobilized for a period. “Rest when I can” will not allow for proper healing
Anonymous member 412 yes I have and they will not do anything to help me until/unless it ruptures. I wear an ankle support but I also have a 1 year old child. Without being given a boot from the docs I don't have any way of immobilising it.
I'm also in the UK and have chronic ankle instability and pain involving multi-ligament injuries and tendon strains. Someone I know here says it is possible to purchase a boot. If you can afford it, it would be worth seeing a sports medicine doctor and getting their advice. Try not to get fobbed off which even private medics can do.
thank you for your advice!
I see some for sale on Amazon. There might be something you could get…
the issue with tendons is that they don't respond well to immobilisation, which a boot does. In fact, this can make them worse unless they are ruptured. Have you had an MRI or ultrasound to confirm? See the work of Jill Cook who is a tendon expert and who explains progressive loading is the way to recovery and there is pain involved in rehab. Many links online, eg https://theprehabguys.com/rehab-achilles-tendinopathy/ If you are young, you should be able to recover well pending on the exact nature of the injury, as I understand it.

Order one online. It’s called a camwalker. Pls give it a try.
