Hi everyone, new to the page and I’ve gone through quite a few feeds but still have a few questions…I have a tailors bunionectomy scheduled for Sept 11th, my doc says 2-4 weeks in a boot and walking immediately after surgery for short distances. Has anyone been told the same? I have a hard time understanding how they are cutting/shaving the bunion and I’ll be able to walk immediately but I’m hopeful. Also planned to get crutches just in case.

My podiatrist told me the same thing. My surgery is November 5th. We'll be on a hiking trip for 2 months prior that we planned a year ago. I won't be doing much hiking though because I can't find anything to help with the pain when I have shoes on. About the only thing I can wear are the Clarks flip flops. Suggestions??

There is not much weight bearing on the 5th toe only 12% out of 100. That is why walking is easily tolerated versus the big toe which bears 50%.

Hi . I would look into carbon fiber insoles. https://a.co/d/bQZtOVo

Homui Carbon Fiber Insole - with Toe Tape - Carbon Fiber Insoles for Men & Women - Mortons Neuroma Relief, Hallux Rigidus/Limitus, Turf Toe Brace, Foot Pain Relief, Post op Shoe (Mens 12/Womens 13)

Provide a rigid surface in your insole that prevents your toe box from bending. Carbon fiber is strong but also flexible so it gives you some energy back in your step if that makes sense.
