I have mild bunion, I am thinking to do surgery. one of biggest concern is the ability to run after a surgery, I love running and have been running for more than 20 years, perhaps it casues my bunion get worser. any runner here can share your experience?

Are you in pain from the bunion? If it’s not too bad I would wear toe spacers and foot exercises. My surgery is becoming a long recovery.

I’m post surgery week 11. Even though I can’t run yet, I feel there is more strength and stability in my big toe already. I’m being sensible and not pushing it before it’s fixed. It kills me marshalling rather than running at the Parkrun.

DO NOT DO IT IF YOU DONT HAVE TO !!!! it’s a real lot 😡

I have a good story. I was a long distance runner prior to surgery. I had a chevron procedure on my right foot in December, and just ran in a Ragnar race this past weekend. My legs were 3-4 miles, so not long, but I can run. I’m up to 5 miles again when running single runs. It is true that it’s a different pain/discomfort than before surgery, however I don’t have the nerve pain in my toe that I had, and it’s not sharp…I just know I had something done recently. I do have quite a bit of swelling after running, but he said I could pop back in for a steroid shot anytime to help alleviate the swelling that is constantly there. You’ll hear the horror stories on here, but I’m super happy to have done it.

I say do it. I do not have any regrets so far and looks great. It will only get better. 😊feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I’m a runner and have the same concerns. Running definitely accelerates it but 🤷‍♀️ I spoke to a surgeon 2 weeks ago, yes there can be complications but he said 3-6 months max for running, there shouldn’t be pain forever afterwards. It’s breaking a bone then healing like any other bone in our bodies.

If the pain isn’t horrible, don’t do it.
