I'm having MIS for my bunion on Tuesday. Any advice on how long it will be before I can return to the pool? Even if just to get it wet in a pool vs full out swimming??

You can’t get your foot wet until stitches come out. For me that was 2 weeks post op. As far as full out swimming, I’m not sure. I currently have to keep my toe splinted with silk tape. I take it off every 24 hours and do toe exercises and then retape it. I haven’t gotten in pool yet. Not even sure if the tape he has me using is waterproof. Was going to ask about it at my 5 week appointment.

For me it will be 7 weeks tomorrow. I had pins removed 2 days ago. I have the ok to start swimming on Tuesday.
Incision has to be closed and you don’t have scabs anymore. One of the biggest risk with this procedure is infection be careful and patient do not submerge your feet in water until Dr says it is ok to do it.
I believe my doctor said a month but gentle movements in the pool, I just had surgery Thursday
This is what I’ve been using for shower. It’s worked good
At my 1 month post op, doctor told me I could get in pool. He said I had no restrictions except heels and jumping/running.
I would wait until the incisions heal completely and your doctor gives you the approval… The last thing you wanna do is reverse this progress that has already happened by trying to be out and be free… I had my surgery 22 days ago and I am itching to get outside… However, I’m staying put because I do not want to go through this again  And also, I’m still in these ugly shoes and my feet are swollen… So I’m not going too far… LMAO I had both my feet done at the same time
I also ordered this cover to put over my surgical shoe when I leave the house. I have had to be in the shoe 24/7, even to sleep, so it grossed me out thinking about sleeping with a dirty shoe on my bed 😂
I just had my 2 week review, and stitches removed. I can wash my foot now, the wound is covered with tape however not allowed to submerge in water yet until my next review this coming week. Im more focused on strengthening the big toe because despite no pain it feels weak for now, it feels weak to bend the big toe. I was given set of exercises by podiatrist to strengthen.
what is silk tape pls? Do you have a pic of the taping? My big toe refuses to sit down and has done all my life. It is taped since my op nearly 7 wks ago..last visit surgeon told me to add extra tape on the back of the toe to encourage it...
When you for your stitches out at 2 wk post op appt, could you shower normally at that point- or did you still keep foot covered in the shower for another 2 weeks?

Oh well yes I see what you mean and yeah that’s unfortunate but better to get it over with . There will be other summers …. Perhaps .

I’ll be 4 weeks post op on Wednesday and I still can’t even really bend my big toe lol
Good to hear! Do you have any lingering pain and swelling?
6 months out and can’t flex my toes past 15 degrees. I limp when I walk. It stings at the joint.

I couldn’t either but it’s bending pretty good now at 7 weeks post op
I still have a very slight limp. The limping and being in a boot then surgical shoe really threw off my knee. I had a knee replacement a year ago on same leg. My knee really stiffened up through this whole process. I think That bothered me more than anything. It’s starting to get better the more normal I walk.
Dr wants to do a chielectomy now. (Removal of bone spurs etc) 😩 Getting second opinion
I do still have a little swelling but I can wear several pairs of sneakers. No pain at all but big toe still feels a little Numb.
You are so right! After all this, I definitely don't want to risk anything!! Good for you for doing both at the same time! Get it done! ✅👏😄
just out of curiosity, how did you get around with doing both feet at the same time?
I am the same - I had done both at the same time. Tomorrow is 5 weeks for me. My new thing is trying to find shoes that fit otherwise I am stuck with the ugly shoes too.

You are just ahead of me… And yes, I didn’t feel very much pain at all either… Though I did stay in front of the pain with the pain meds that were prescribed, but I’ve been good since they’ve run out I haven’t gotten a refill of anything just ibuprofen… But I do see my beautiful new skinny feet first thing in the morning… It’s just after I get to move about in my apartment that I notice the swelling. 🥴 Thank you for letting me know that the light that I see is a true light! I pray for your continued healing… And all that comes with it!🙏🏽 I guess I need to start looking for some shoes to transition into… I’m gonna try to find the cutest ones possible… Lol
it was a little difficult… the first week… But then I just had to find the best system to get around. I had crutches a walker and a wheelchair… I’ve been getting around pretty well… I use mostly my heels and the outer edges of my feet… But I’m 24/7 in my surgical shoes… (I have walked around without my surgical shoes like to the bathroom in an emergency) have just been extremely careful on only using my heels and the outer edges of my feet. Each day is a new day and every day I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel get brighter and brighter !! ❤️
how are you doing? How are you feeling? Did you get minimally invasive procedure? How does it feel to be five weeks out?🥳🥳 Has a swelling gone down where your big toe can touch the ground yet? Do you have any pins or screws? Are you afraid to walk on your feet… I certainly am
Hey Iva at 5 weeks its not too bad. And really the pain wasn't too bad at all even at the beginning. when I first was allowed to walk a bit more than just to the bathroom at 16 days post I could hear clicking and it made me feel yuk. (i am a worrier). But Doc said it was normal. I went grocery shopping yesterday and today my big toes do hurt - but not agony. As far as swelling goes when doc took off bandages I thought "look at my beautiful thin feet" (that was almost 3 weeks ago). I put on my big ugly wide box Brooks sport shoes and they were very very snug. So I must still have swelling. My big toe does touch the ground (but I have weird shaped toes the front of toe points a little up wards -always been that way) but more or less toes are on the ground. Mine was minimally invasive with pins on both feet. Hang in there - I feel every week there is a new improvement. My new phase is I have started using bio oil as my skin is soooo dry. Not sure if I am meant to yet but most of the scabs have almost fallen off.....
I just came back from shoe shopping -good luck with finding the cutest ones - if you do please let me know. the best ones i found were Saucony's -that are pretty plain black that I could wear with most things. They were quite wide and didn't hurt so that is a start. But...that was this morning (i am in Australia now that I have done some walking....might be a diff story haha)

Same here. I’m told also to wear my surgical shoe 24/7 and even to sleep. Where/who performed your procedure? Thanks
wow something to keep in mind I wear my surgical boot 24/7; when I come home I wipe down my shoe with wipes and hobble to the laundry where I give it a thorough clean with a antibacterial solution! Those boot covers look a bit dangerous especially in wet weather! I have now decided to buy another surgical boot so have an indoor and outdoor boot! only 4 weeks to go before I am surgical boot free!

2 Weeks. I did . Too many crying babies told me all kind of Negative stuffs. Believe in yourself & healthy body yiu will be fine. Most complainers I heard are from the heavyFat sides.
4 weeks post op u can submerge your foot. I had a very successful MIS procedure to remedy a wicked bunion and I was back into playing heavy-full contact activity by my 4th month 💪🏼
At least 6 weeks when your dressings are completely finished and of course when all incisions closed.
Not until it’s completely healed so minimum 6 weeks but everyone is different
Once the sutures are out and the Dr says it’s ok! I was told to soak my feet often so I’d expect between 2-4 weeks🤔
I got stitches out at 2 weeks post op and they said to wait 1-2 more weeks after that to soak in water, so plan on 4 weeks.

Home from surgery! Surgery was at 9:30 am (got there at 7:30 am) and I'm lucky to only live 20 min from Duke where my surgery was done. All good so far! ✅ (until that nerve block wears off 😜)
