Mine peeled off after the swelling went down. I don't know if that is normal or not. It hasn't come back as my gait is different. Plus I am wearing shoes with a wide toe box. My surgeon didn't take it off. I should have asked him to and he probably would have. Maybe ask your surgeon if that can be done. Best to you!

I'm waiting for akin, osteotomy surgery in the coming months. I'm sure many of us with bunions also suffer from calluses, especially below the big toe. Those that have had surgery, do you still suffer from these painful calluses? Have they improved or gone?

I haven’t had surgery, but here to say my calluses have changed (are lessened) since I started wearing wide toe box Altra Running Shoes as my daily footwear. I think the toe spread has helped. It’s likely that if you work on your gait at anytime (which will help prevent bunion recurrence after surgery too) and wear footwear with toe splay space— then calluses will probably change and hopefully be reduced. I had the callus under the ball of my foot described in the Gait Happens video linked (this callus is now essentially gone with wearing wide toe box footwear!) and also a “pinch callus” on the side of my big toe. Are you talking about either of these? https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5l0IGAPSf9/?igsh=MXVvdGx2eWxrNmlodQ== FACEBOOK Do you or your patients have pain/calluses in the ball of the foot? 👣 Toe Gripping or Flexor Stabilization in gait could be one of the contributing factors. ➡️ When we grip with the tips of our toes, we put pressure only through the tips of the toes and the ball of the foot, rather than distributing the weight evenly across the forefoot. Support Group(: Hi everyone, this question is more for UK based people. Did anyone aquire a temporary blue badge for after surgery? Was it problematic to get? I'm thinking ahead. I have a couple of health problems that I get seen regularly for, for treatment. After the initial 3 weeks of bed rest, I will need to start making arrangements, getting seen etc. My husband will be my chauffeur but I can imagine walking far would be limited. Thanks x See less
Hi I'm not sure they give temporary passes but no harm in asking your local authority. The sooner the better. Good luck
Support Group(: Hi everyone, im currently on the waiting list for a scarf osteotomy with akin osteotomy. The surgeon has already said this will involve hardware of screws. I have 100% made my mind up that the surgery is right for me, I can no longer continue with the pain. Surgeon has also recommended im a good candidate. I've noticed post op guidance seems to differ depending on country or region. Im UK based, Scotland. I've been told once home as a day case, im on strict bed rest for 3 we
Thomas Hi, I’m uk and on day 7. Had the same op on the NHS plus two toes pinned. My advice was 2 weeks rest with only getting up to the loo, and to try and mobilise once an hour, to help with circulation. I was given a sandal and told to walk carefully using
