Bilateral bunion revision: managing pain during work return
Really needing some advice and support, I feel so at a loss. I had my initial bilateral bunionectomy (both feet at the same time) plus bunionette on the 10th of March 2025. I then had to have revision surgery because the bunion reoccurred on my left foot and the fibrewire tying my first and second metatarsal almost completely sawed through my second metatarsal so I had to have revision plus fixation with a ORIF in September 2025. It's now almost been a year since the first surgery and 4 months since the second. After almost a year I finally was able to secure a part time position in a art and play group, it's twice a week, 3.5 hours with a fair bit of walking on my feet with an additional 3 hour total commute. My steps are around 7000 on work days and around 2-5000 on non work days. Before I got this position my physio was going great and I was feeling less and less pain and more ease walking. Since I've gotten this position 2 weeks ago all it seems is going from one painful day to a partial recovery before the next shift as the days I don't work I have doctors appointments or errands to run. I can't do my physio exercises to the same extent as I'm in so much pain with lots of swelling and I feel like I've hit a plateau. I'm 25 and I'm constantly in so much pain, I'm in constant fear that this is what my future looks like, so much pain from day to day from the moment I leave the house to the moment I get home. Does the pain ever fully go away? Am I doing too much too soon? Will I be able to live life again without so much day to day pain and suffering? I really don't know who to talk to about this, if anyone has any similar sorties or answers please let me know.
