Recovery update after my June 11, 2025 bunion repair (Lapiplasty – correction of the bunion with Calcaneal Bone Graft and lesser toe corrections): NW bearing for 4 weeks to walking in boot for 4 weeks. Then transitioned to a tennis shoe for 12 weeks of physical therapy and returned to work in October on modified duty — straight 8-hour days to get back in a steel toe boot. After returning, I started having pain under the outside of my ankle toward pinkie toe. I saw my surgeon in December 2025 and she believed it was likely stiffness from recovery and advised me to continue stretching. At my February appointment, the pain was still present. Now, she thinks it could possibly be a tendon issue under the ankle to stop stretching. It seemed to aggravate it more. She put me in an ankle support brace and have another appointment scheduled in May. I’ve been released back to my normal 12-hour shifts with the brace in a steel toe boot but no overtime until we see if the tendon improves. If not, the next step will likely be an MRI to see exactly what’s going on. Still have the pain when walking without the brace to now my 3rd lesser toe wanting to cramp up in the evenings. One thing to another lol The bunion correction itself is doing well — just continuing to work through this ankle issue. See less

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I wanted to share an update. I’m about 5 months out from Lapiplasty (Akin osteotomy, calcaneal bone graft, and correction of three lesser toes). I been back to work for 2 weeks in steel toe shoes on modified hours and restrictions and continuing physical therapy to work on strength, flexibility, and balance. Still have some swelling and stiffness, but I’m seeing slow, steady progress. I go back Dec 18 to see if I can be released with no restrictions back to 12 hour shifts. For anyone earlier in recovery, hang in there — it really is a journey, but every little milestone counts. See less

Wow that looks good. Healing well. I just had surgery yesterday. I’m told day 3 is the worst for pain because the nerve block is going to wear off. Kind of a little nervous about that. You said journey. Healing is definitely a process. Thanks for sharing.

That wide toe box will change everything. I wish I had known about a wide toe box shoe years ago. Nobody says anything until it's too late.
