Severe nighttime bunion pain: is surgery the answer?

Archive date 5 archived replies

I apologize if this isn't allowed but I was going to set a date for surgery then things came up so now I'm kind of stuck. The pain is getting to be ridiculous at night. No OTC med helps at all (I got aleve specifically for this pain to no avail). I'm honestly scared to ask my podiatrist in fear that I won't get any relief for the time being. My next appointment was supposed to be the scheduling and all that stuff . I know I obviously won't be able to drive for a bit..and even better, the bunion is on my driving foot (I had a stroke 11 years ago so I have to drive with my left foot). Any suggestions or advice? I got one of those dr scholl bunion correctors and can't wear that because the gel pad presses on the bunion and causes a shooting pain in that toe. The "special" insoles the podiatrist sold me barely help (I have flat feet too). Sorry for the rant. Pic is from the appointment when I told him I wanted the surgery, hence the drawing.

I have had surgery on one foot and not the other (and I need it). I just don’t have it in me to go through that surgery again, at least not yet. I only wear the most comfortable, wide shoes I can find, no matter the occasion (I’ve worn my black Hokas to a funeral). I just make the few shoes I can wear comfortably work for whatever the occasion is. Many of the widest shoes are still not wide enough, so I bought a shoe stretcher to use at home. I can stretch shoes exactly where I need it. Best of luck to you!

I would say to just go ahead and rebook your appointment for the op as I had my first op on my right foot last July and I get the op on my left foot in 2 weeks time If you are in a lot of pain it will be worth it I have tried before the op trying loads of self remedies but found out by experiences they don't work and you are wasting your money Good luck on your decision 👍

You will just have to bite the bullet and get it done .You will have to have a friend drive you home and perhaps have home health care come to your home for a couple visits if needed for therapy sine you have had a stroke in the past to help with gait training ing with a walker or cane

Have you ever tried to have custom-made shoe orthotics? And tried physical therapy for your foot?
