It’s a normal process after a traumatic event usually happens about 3 to 4 months afterwards. I’m a hairdresser and I’ve seen it happen to so many people. The technical word is telogen Eluvium. Diffuse hair thinning due to surgery anesthesia childbirth, low, iron stress, etc. it is self limiting and will correct and things will get back to normal.

Good grief it looks so good wouldn't think you'd had an op 5 months ago

Nelly Starfall You are not crazy for noticing that, but at this stage it is very easy for swelling and positioning changes to create an illusion that something is shifting when it actually is not. After bunion and hammertoe surgery, especially in the first couple of months, the foot is still very swollen and the soft tissues are tight and uneven. That can pull the toe slightly, make it look rotated, or change how it rests depending on the time of day, footwear, or even how long you have been on your feet. A lot of people also underestimate how much swelling can distort alignment visually. Even when the bone correction is holding, the surrounding tissue can temporarily “mask” the final result. It is usually too early to judge long term alignment when swelling is still described as “crazy swollen.” What helped me understand these confusing stages of recovery was ESSENTIALS OF JOINT HEALTH by Joe Zapata. It is not just a general recovery book, it explains how bones, joints, and soft tissue all interact during healing and why appearance and function often lag behind the actual surgical correction. Since you are still early in recovery, this is definitely something worth mentioning at your follow up, but what you are seeing can still fall within normal post op changes. You can find ESSENTIALS OF JOINT HEALTH by Joe Zapata on Amazon. It is especially helpful for understanding why swelling can temporarily change how your foot looks even when healing is on track.

I was told to use toe spacers

Mine does that. You have to look at the xray. My xray looks fine.
