Shared post Lisa Gelfo Hi..new here ..my podiatrist suggests bunion, tailor bunion and hammertoe surgery. I dont have pain specifically in any if those areas but because if them (at least in part)i have other issues that do cause pain occasionally. Im trying to decide if I should go thru the surgery? I hate wearing a boot (broke my foot before) and not being able to walk but if in long run Id not have to deal w/feet issues Id do it Guess just looking for how you decided to go thru with surgery. Well, folks…guess who decided to go for a drive today?! šŸ‘€ā€¦ME! 🤪 I asked my husband to ride with me for a test drive around town because I wanted to see how my foot would handle it. I ended up driving around for about 15 minutes, going anywhere from 15-30mph, (depending on where we were) and then we agreed for me to go ahead and be the one to make the drive to our chosen diner for lunch. The diner is only 30 miles away. The speed limit there and back fluctuates btwn 35-55mph. The entire drive went GREAT! The brake pedal didn’t bother my foot/toe at all!!! No pain or anything. šŸ™šŸ½ I’m proud of myself for taking the opportunity to at least try it. If it would’ve become an issue for my foot, my husband was there to take over. 🄰 Thankfully, that didn’t happen and his ā€œassistanceā€ wasn’t necessary. We enjoyed our meal, the atmosphere and conversation between us as well as with other customers and staff. On the drive back home, we stopped at a roadside produce stand and got lots a fresh, homegrown goodies. šŸ˜€ Overall, I really, really enjoyed myself. I needed THIS so much. We’re safely back home now and I’m in the process of preparing food to cook for this evening’s dinner as we’re having company over later. This surgery isn’t easy. Neither is the recovery. Take it slow and steady and don’t allow ANYTHING (including fear and yourself) to get in the way of YOUR individual healing. **Here’s a photo of us right before we started stuffing our faces. šŸ˜‚** I’ll be 6wks post-op on August 5th. Not far, just around the block. I have been scared to do this because they are pullers and take off after bunnies, squirrels, etc. They pulled hard once, and I did not lose my balance. That was scary but also gave me confidence. One of the life things I have missed is walking them a few miles a day. It all starts with one around the block. šŸ˜€ Today is my third day of doing PT exercises, and I feel like mobility is retuning slowly. It is not too bad lifting the toe up. But the toe scrunches trying to pick up a towel are all about effort and not the goal. The physical therapist said that I just need to make an effort, even if I cannot scrunch. I have been wearing my Crocs all the time at home, and the PT wants me to wear my Hokas more, trying to extend them time I can tolerate them. I have them on now. Let's see how long I can go.
