I’m frustrated. I went into a sneaker (as per my Dr order at my 5 week post op) It felt weird but I did it because that’s what I was told to do. I wore the sneaker for a few hours and then took it off at home and had to elevate and ice. I wore the sneakers to work Friday. I was miserable. My foot was swollen, I had to ice it once at work and when I came home. I tried again today and while I was walking around the store, I had pain which I haven’t had in weeks. So now I’ve decided to go back to wearing the surgical shoe because when I wear it, I have no pain or anything and my foot feels great. I’m going to wear it until I go to physical therapy Wednesday and see what he says. I’m just so frustrated and feel like I’m not “keeping up“ with the doctor’s plan. I’m just not ready for a shoe yet.

Ask your doctor about wearing compression socks they really help me

Listen to your body and ask you pt about your gait. It’s a slow process so if you’re not ready you’re NOT ready.

Hi, sorry to hear your having a tough time. I’ve been wearing trainers/sneakers now for the past 3 weeks and I’m post op 8 weeks with both feet having had bunion surgery & hammertoe. I got myself a pair of mizuno wide fit and went up a complete foot size from a 6 to a 7. Started wearing them without the inner sole and now I can wear them with the inner sole in. I think key is not over doing in and trying to keep the shoes on as long as possible so that your feet adjust again, that’s what my surgeon/consultant told me. I ended up buying the same shoe again so that I have a pair for inside and outside 🙈. Hope all goes well 😊

My surgeon told me to wear my shoes with the inserts and Incrediwear socks I purchased from him after my two week appointment. He even helped me loosen the shoe strings. It’s been a challenge. I do take out the insert and ice and elevate a lot. It’s been 5 weeks and a few days.

It’s okay to not be ready with his plan. You know your feet better and a side road doesn’t mean you won’t still end up where you need to be. Slow and steady wins the race.

Everyone heals differently. Just listen to your foot and progress at your own speed. It took me at least 7 weeks before I stopped feeling the need to elevate. Make sure you have a very supportive wide shoe, like Brooks. I have the Brooks Dyad.

The same with my back surgery still can't stand in place .over a year frustrated

can you recommend any particular makes of compression socks I was told to get some but not sure where to start!

Update: I talked to my dr today and he said I could wear the surgical shoe until I see PT it’s week. Phew, I feel better

I wear my Hoka wide width sneakers an hour and my foot hurts and swells. I tried every single shoe and sneaker I own. I’m so frustrated I’m glad I start PT weds. I can ask him

mine laced mine a special way to allow for swelling. It’s not the big toe that hurts it’s my pinky toe that he broke and fixed. It’s the problem currently
