Scared but going forward with my surgery - on July 16th afte

Scared but going forward with my surgery - on July 16th after having bunions since I have been in my teens. I have cancelled the surgery before out of fear of the long recovery. I am having a lapidus with 1st metatarsal arthrodesis and midfoot fusion on my right foot. Apparently need a bone graft as well. I believe I will be non weight bearing for at least 8 weeks - maybe longer. I live alone except for my 2 teens who are in summer camp for a month after the surgery - which is a good thing. I have a knee scooter to get around the apt. For those of you who were non weight bearing for so long- what were the biggest challenges that you needed someone to help with? I live in NYC so will likely order food, groceries to be delivered. I am trying to figure out if I should hire someone to stay with me the first few weeks or just need someone to pop in a few times a day to check on me, help with meals, etc . I will have friends visiting me but since it’s the summer and many are away I want to make sure I have dedicated help if it’s needed. Thanks for any advice you can offer! See less

Well done for getting the surgery! I’ve just had my second bunion op two weeks ago and both times I was non WB for at least 2 weeks. I batch cooked and cleaned before I went in. I had help with shopping since getting home and apart from overdoing it with a day out, all has been fine. If you have a toilet and bathroom on your floor you will be fine. I showered and washed my hair the following day and hopped about my home with no issues. I showered with a bag in my foot. It’s not as bad as it seems, you will be fine.

Tamra Fakhoorian I had fam ck in on me every day for the first few days, then gradually spread it out to 2x a week at the end of my second week. Frozen meals are the way to go. Don't do like me and order a pizza delivered on Day 4. It took me several minutes to get to the door, then I had to figure out how to carry the thing back to my bed!

Hi, I really could use advice from this group! I have severe bunions on both feet and mid foot arthritis and am told I will need lapidus akin for the bunions, midfoot fusion of 2nd and possibly 3rd TMT for the arthritis and possibly a hammertoe fixed. I am scared for the surgery, esp because of the 6-8+ weeks of NWB and have put it off for years. I am not in acute pain but my right foot aches when I walk due to the midfoot arthritis and the bunions are now preven

My feet are similar to yours, but I wear good leather wide width shoes and sandals and I have no pain and discomfort. Praying I never have to do the surgery. In my late 60’s . My bunions started in my 30’s . Wishing you all the best

It will be worth it. We can’t walk on dislocated or broken toes forever. If our arm was broken we’d get it taken care of pretty quick. It will be a long recovery, but definitely worth it in the long run. Buy a knee scooter with a basket for recovery in
