I have to tape my worst hammertoe down at the base of the toe. If I don't, it hurts even in athletic shoes. Try looking up some utube videos for hammertoe taping. It's cheap to invest in some tape and may help with your painful toe.

Wayne Young XLfeet have work boots with etrawide toe box. I tried them but my super high arch and instep wouldn't fit. Good luck.

I went to the podiatrist. They gave me insoles and a sock to wear. The only thing that helped was the cortisone injection in my heel. Which hurt almost as bad as the heel pain. And it wore off after 2 months. I just didn’t go back. I just limp around and deal with the pain.
