Finally bit the bullet and got cortisone injections at the doctor in the side of my heels. Anybody have personal experience as to how long the relief typically lasts? I can tell a big difference and it’s only been a hour and half.

My Cortizone shots have lasted at least six months some a little longer

Can you sorta tell me how painful getting the shot was? I'm really scared. It's not my heels it's the top of my foot where it bends/tongue of a sneakers hit. I may have to go that route. Thanks Hope you continue to feel better

The initial shot has numbing med that last a couple hours after that lots of pain use ice packs After that goes away it may or may not work It did not work for me your doctor should have explained all of this and given you a handout on it Oofos shoes are my only relief also compression sock with pad in heal may help

Maybe a week or two. Can’t really recall. The shot was pretty uncomfortable. My insurance covered one or two times only.

Just wondering what foot condition you got cortisone injection for? I had a cortisone injection in my arm for nerve inflammation pain and it has completely resolved the pain. I told my podiatrist this and asked if I could have cortisone injection for my severe foot pain but they dismissed idea. Wondering what conditions it helps with.

sounds like you have a neuroma . I just had mine injected too and heel . This was the 3rd time . It’s usually last about 3 months . It takes a few days for it to have the final affect.

April - ask for an ankle/nerve block or other local anesthesia. My then 17-year old daughter had an injection through the top of her foot where you’re describing and it was not pleasant… at all. She would not do it a second time. Obviously the amount of pain depends on the person and what’s going on inside the foot. She had a fracture of the tip of a tiny bone (anterior process of the calcaneus) in her foot that usually heals on its own with limited mobility after six weeks; it didn’t heal and she was in agony so she opted for the shot. When it wore off, she opted for surgery and is now good as new! Good luck to you!

they put a freezing spray on it first. I had mine on the top of feet and it was tolerable. It was worth the relief I got

everyone is different though. Sometimes when numbing is applied to my body it causes the shot to still hurt me or have an unpleasant sensation. I think I tolerated it the first time but the second time it was bothersome.

Hi Casey Lewis, the duration of relief from cortisone injections can vary depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. However, in general, most people experience some level of relief within a few days to a week after the injection. The initial relief you're feeling after only an hour and a half is likely due to the local anesthetic that is often used along with the cortisone. This can provide immediate relief, but it typically wears off within a few hours. The cortisone itself usually takes a few days to start working, and its effects can last for several weeks to several months. However, it's important to note that cortisone injections are not a long-term solution and should be used in conjunction with other treatments, such as physical therapy, stretching exercises, or orthotics. It's also important to follow your doctor's instructions for rest and recovery after the injection. You may be advised to avoid certain activities or to take it easy for a few days to allow the injection to take full effect. If you have any concerns or questions about your cortisone injection or the duration of its effects, I recommend reaching out to your doctor for further guidance.
